Einst wurden in den Berici-Hügeln die Steine für die Villen Andrea Palladios gewon-
nen. Durch den fortwährenden Abbau von Kalkstein entstand im Cava Arcari eine be-
eindruckende Architektur der Leere mit kolossalen, natürlichen Pfeilern. In diesem
aufgelassenen Steinbruch ließen David Chipperfield Architects Milan den Cava
Arcari Event Space entstehen. Leere gibt weiterhin den Ton an! Zwischen die Pfeiler
aus Vicenza-Stein schieben sich Plattformen, Treppen und Rampen in gleicher Mate-
rialität, die von einem großen Wasserbecken umgeben sind. Einfach poetisch!
In former times, the stones for the villas designed by the architect Andrea Palladio
used to be quarried in the Berici Hills. As a result of the continuous mining of lime-
stone, in the Cava Arcari an impressive kind of architecture of the void was produced
with colossal, natural pillars. In this abandoned quarry, David Chipperfield Archi-
tects Milan created the Cavea Arcari Event Space. Void continues to set the tone!
