ie exklusive Lage im nördlichen Bahrain lässt es erahnen: Das Head -
quarter der Al-Baraka-Bank – eine der größten islamischen Banken –

ist opulent und großzügig gestaltet. Dabei umfasst die Bank zwei Gebäude,
die über eine mehrgeschossige Brücke verbunden sind. Der so entstande-
ne, be grünte Hof entspricht traditionellen bahrainischen Innenhöfen und
kann von Mitarbeitern und Besuchern ge nutzt werden, was nicht nur die
Aufent haltsqualität für die Mitarbeiter erhöht, sondern zugleich einen kul-
turellen Standpunkt repräsentiert. Letzterer wird zudem durch geometri-
sche Struk turen betont, die – abgeleitet aus traditionellen islamischen
Mustern – in der Fassade skelettartig Stabilität und Rück grat symbolisieren
sollen. Über neun Stockwerke erstrecken sich Büro- und Verwal tungs -
räume, die sich durch Transparenz und Flexibi lität auszeichnen. Ver glaste
Flächen und ei ne hohe Varianz an ungleicher Winklig keit in der
Raumgestal tung sor gen für ein stetiges Spiel zwischen dem Innen- und
Außenraum, das durch die mit Pflan zen bestückten, doppelten Glas trenn -
wände im Inne ren zu sätzlich betont wird. EMGA setzten auf eine offene
Grund rissgestal tung zur Förderung des internen Austauschs. Um den noch
die akustischen Anforderun gen er füllen zu können sowie Rück zugsmög -
lich kei ten und Diskretion zu schaffen, wurden 4akustik-Schall absorp tions -
plat ten von Fantoni als Wandelemente in Besprechungsräumen so wie in

he exclusive location in northern Bahrain gives an idea: The de -
sign of the headquarters of Al Baraka Bank — one of the largest

Islamic banks — is opulent and generous. The bank comprises two buil-
dings that are connected by a multi-storey bridge. The resulting green
courtyard corresponds to the traditional Bahraini courtyard architectu-
re. It is open to both staff and visitors, thereby not only enhancing the
quality for employees, but also representing a cultural point of view.
The latter is also emphasised by geometric structures, which — derived
from traditional Islamic patterns — symbolise stability and backbone in
a skeletal form on the façade. Office and administration rooms, all of
which are characterised by transparency and flexibility, extend over
nine floors. With glazed surfaces and a high variance in term of irregu-
lar angularity, the interior design ensures a constant interplay of inte-
rior and exterior space, which is additionally emphasised by the dou-
ble glass partitions with plants in-between. Furthermore, EMGA relied
on an open-plan layout to promote internal exchange among employe-
es. In order to meet the acoustic requirements and to create privacy
and discretion were required, 4akustik sound-absorption panels from
Fantoni were used as wall elements in conference rooms as well as in
areas with increased circulation. On the executive floors, Fantoni glass
