G emeinsam mit ortsansässigen PolitikerInnen und potenziellen NutzerInnen ent-
wickelte das Team von Nord Architects das Bauprojekt des Lyngdal Healthcare Cen-
tres. Diesem liegt das Konzept der altersintegrierten Stadtentwicklung zugrunde, die der
Altenpflege eine zentrale Rolle in der Gesellschaft zukommen lässt, in dem am Ort der
Pflege zusätzliche Einrichtungen Platz finden, von denen das gesamte Quartier profitiert.
Im Lyngdal Healthcare Centre sind im Zuge dessen nicht nur Lang- oder Kurzzeitpflege,
Pflegewohnungen und häusliche Pflegedienste untergebracht, sondern es zogen auch
verschiedene Praxen, Friseursalon, Fußpflege, Fitnesscenter, Waschsalon, Gastronomie-
betriebe und eine Kindertagesstätte mit ein. Auf diese Weise wird das Gebäude für die
Anwohnerschaft attraktiv und den ganzen Tag über mit Leben und sozialer Interaktion
gefüllt. Um die verschiedenen Pflegestationen und Zusatznutzungen sinnvoll im Grund-
riss anzuordnen, wurde das Gebäude sternförmig um einen gemeinschaftsfördernden
Atriumraum im Zentrum angelegt. Jeder der fünf Flügel erhält so Zugang zu den öffentli-
chen Nutzungen und wurde seinen NutzerInnen entsprechend ausgebaut. Im Hinblick auf
eine für alle Altersgruppen passende Gestaltung wählten die PlanerInnen eine schlicht-
geometrische Formensprache und bespielten die Oberflächen mit akustisch wirksamen
Werkstoffen, verschiedenen Pastellfarben und vertikaler Holzlattung. hs

T ogether with local politicians and potential users, the team from Nord Architects
developed the Lyngdal Healthcare Centre building project. The project is based
on the concept of age-integrated urban development, which gives care for the elderly
a central role in society by providing additional facilities in the place of care that, in
the end, will benefit the entire neighbourhood. As a result of the innovative planning,
the Lyngdal Healthcare Centre not only accommodates long-term or short-term care,
care flats and home-care services, but also various medical practices, hairdressing
salon, chiropody, fitness centre, launderette, catering establishments and a day-care
centre. In this way, the building certainly becomes attractive for the residents and
is furthermore filled with life and social interaction throughout the day. In order to
arrange the various care stations and additional uses sensibly in the floor plan, the
building was laid out in an ingenious star shape around a community-promoting
atrium space in the centre. Each of the five wings thus has access to the public uses
and was developed according to the wishes of its final users. With a view to creating
a design that would be suitable for all age groups, the planners chose a simple
geometric language of forms and used acoustically effective materials, various pastel
