Wie aus einem Guss: Die Anbaufassade ist aus Corian. • The façade consists of Corian.

S eit seiner Einführung in den 1960er-Jahren hat sich der ursprünglich
für Bad- und Küchenmöbel entwickelte Mineralwerkstoff Corian zu
ei nem Oberflächenmaterial gemausert, das weltweit und zu unterschied -
lichs ten Zwecken Anwendung findet. Ob als geschwungener Empfangs -
tre sen oder transluzentes Lichtobjekt, als dekoratives Wandpaneel oder
Fas sa denmaterial – der Werkstoff überzeugt dank seiner Flexibilität und
sei ner vielseitigen Produkteigenschaften. In Bor deaux wurde Corian nun
erst mals als Fassadebekleidung auf einer Holz rahmenkonstruktion mon-
tiert. Bei der Sanierung und Auf sto ckung einer Zahnarztklinik entschie-
den sich die Architekten des ortsansässigen Büros BüPa Architectures
unter an derem deshalb für das Material, weil es gegenüber anderen ver-
gleichbaren Pro dukten ungwöhnlich lan ge seine Farb intensität beibe-
hält. Das aufge stock te Gebäudevolumen ist voll stän dig von dem Mi ne -
ral werkstoff umhüllt. Op tisch fugenlos verklebt, ent steht eine homogene
Fassade, die aus 70 ein ze l nen Paneelen zusam men gefügt ist. Ausgeführt
in Glacier White erzeugt das äußere Er schei nungs bild Assoziationen mit
Hygiene und Sterilität und verweist ex plizit auf die zahnklinische Nut -
zung des Gebäudes. Tat säch lich verfügt Corian dank der fugenfreien
Verar beitung über ei ne besonders hygienische Ober fläche, die es für den
Einsatz in Ge sund heits ein richtungen prädestiniert. Unter kon trollierten
Tem pe ra tu ren lässt sich der Werkstoff frei verformen, was am Beispiel
der organisch geschwungenen Empfangstheke sichtbar wird. kb

S ince its introduction in the 1960s, the Corian solid-surface material 70 Paneelen sorgen für eine strahlend weiße Fassade ohne Vergilben. • 70 panels ensure a shiny white façade without yellowing.
– originally developed for bathroom- and kitchen furniture – has
grown into a surface material which is used worldwide and for a wide
variety of purposes. Whether as a curved reception counter or as a
translucent light object, as a decorative wall panel or as material for
façades – the material convinces with its flexibility and its varied pro-
duct qualities. In Bordeaux, Corian was now for the first time mounted
as façade cladding on a wood-frame construction. For the renovation
and the heightening of a dental clinic, the architects from the local BüPa
Architectures office among other aspects decided in favour of the mate-
rial because, unlike with other comparable products, it keeps its colour
intensity for an exceptionally long time. The heightened building volu-
me is completely clad with the solid-surface material. Glued together
without any visible joints, a homogeneous façade results which is com-
posed of 70 individual panels. In the chosen colour Glacier White, the
outside appearance awakens associations with hygiene and sterility
and explicitly points to the building’s use as a dental clinic. Thanks to
the joint-free processing, Corian indeed has a particularly hygienic sur-
face which makes it predestined for being used in health facilities. The

material can be freely moulded at controlled temperatures which
shows in the example of the organically curved reception counter.
