CONSULTANCY FIRM
IN HELSINKI
Companies used to be able to select employees from
many applicants. Today, it’s the other way round: compa-
nies have to positively draw attention to themselves. And
if you want to stand out from the competition, you must
be able to offer something. Some lure employees with
breakfast- and lunch service or own fitness centres, others
with a workplace where you simply feel comfortable.
W herever you look: A shortage of skilled labour. The unpleasant
word starting with the letter S is now haunting almost all sec-
tors as a much-feared spectre. The reasons: largely known. The measu-
res: sometimes creative. Since securing top talent is crucial, in order to
attract (and then manage toretain!) employees, companies are coming
up with a lot of ideas, for example offering free memberships for sports
facilities, allowances for mobile phones, laptops or lunches and adverti-
sing even more flexible working hours. The Finnish auditing- and consul-
ting firm in Helsinki is also aware that only an attractive employer will
succeed in retaining employees in the long term. Because of this fact,
the company is focussing on the benefit where it is most visible and per-
ceptible: in the office design. There is no doubt that attractively designed
premises contribute to well-being in the workplace. For this reason, the
firm commissioned the local interior-design firm Fyra to develop an
appropriate spatial concept by making a bold statement about its cultu-
re and workplace mission to foster team collaboration and strengthen
the sense of belonging in a hybrid working model. The architectural
basis is formed by two buildings from the 1950s and from the 1960s,
which were extensively renovated and extended by two storeys. The
basic character of the existing buildings was retained. The office now
offers space for a total of 900 employees. The decisive parameters for
the interior: a varied spatial structure and areas with different qualities
of stay, harmonious combinations of colours and materials that avoid
creating a sober office atmosphere, and an infrastructure with the latest
technology. For example, an intelligent office tool helps to find a sui-
table workplace or team members. Particular attention was paid to the
use of materials which have a low carbon footprint in order to fulfil
the building’s sustainability requirements – it has been awarded the
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) platinum seal of
approval – in terms of interior design as well. For example, wool carpets
and oak parquet flooring made from untreated wood were used. Whe-
