START-UP PERSONIO
IN MADRID
A study by the Adecco Group entitled “Defining the New
Era of Work” showed that 74 percent of all employees
think that a mixed form of office and home office – a hy-
brid work model – is ideal. The Personio start-up also
realized this development. In cooperation with INpuls, the
location recently opened in the Spanish capital was the-
refore completely oriented on flexible work structures.
T hat the key to a sustainably successful enterprise lies good person-
nel management goes without saying for Personio, a manufacturer
of software products intended for human resources. Founded in 2015,
the start-up currently has 600 employees and four locations in Munich,
London, Dublin and Madrid. The latter with a size of 1,800 square me-
tres extends across two floors of an office complex which is close to the
city centre. Both floors have been designed by INpuls to look mainly the
same, as open-plan office landscapes which have the goal to promote
communality and communication. The structure as regards design and
function is provided by a supply core contains the vertical building ac-
cess. Consistently designed in light blue, the so-called blue fortress is
for generally important functions such as meeting rooms of different di-
mensions, toilet facilities and plenty of storage space. On the 17th upper
floor, there are furthermore a Nap Cap (a room provided for taking a
nap) and showers for the employees. On the floor below are a large kit-
chen and a seat grandstand. The grandstand is part of a spacious social
meeting point which is above all used for the meetings of the entire
team held on Fridays where, via livestream, all the locations let the
events of the week pass in review and thus take up reliable contact de-
spite hybrid working. In addition to the “fortress”, there is a working
area on both floors which is divided into two sections: high tables and
seating groups in strong orange for informal talks and coworking situa-
tions are here separated by suspended acoustic elements from the rows
of workstations intended for concentrated individual work. The remai-
ning office design is limited to shades of powder and caramel which –
wherever it is suitable – are complemented with maritime pine, plant
containers and black as well as white surfaces. All this is bordered by a
floor that has a terrazzo look and a reinforced-concrete coffered ceiling
coated with rough spray plaster. Ross Seychell, CPO at Personio, finds
the new location more than just merely modern and is convinced: “It is
our responsibility to give our employees the space for productive wor-
king – and this in harmony with their very own working rhythms.”
