N ach Peter und Paul werden die Pfarrer faul.“ Das alte Sprichwort – eine Anspielung
auf das liturgische Sommerloch zwischen dem gleichnamigen Feiertag und Mariä
Himmelfahrt – zeigt sich als unzutreffend, blickt man auf die Pfarrkirchenstiftung St. Peter
und Paul. Für die gibt es Arbeit, das ganze Jahr! So viel Arbeit gar, dass sich eine Büroerwei-
terung für das stiftungseigene Alterszentrum als obligat erwies. Wie selbstverständlich kettet
sich der kompakte Neubau an das Bestandsensemble des Seniorenheims und bewahrt sich
doch, in seiner exklusiven Erscheinung, nach Südwesten hin etwas Solitärhaftes. Auf den
gläsernen Sockel, als offene Hofgrenze, folgt der markante Aufbau – eine architektonische
Neuschöpfung: Durch die Fortführung der Kupferdeckung an der Fassade, die Patina als sol-
che und das Ausschweifen des unteren Wandbereichs mit Traufausbildung wird das Sattel-
zum Mansarddach ernannt. Auch etwas Fledermausgaube steckt im Hybriden: Ochsenau-
gen – außen mit roten, baldachinartigen Markisentüchern geschmückt – vergrößern den
weißen Innenraum. Die Kielbogen-Profilierung im Querschnitt betont die Gebäudemitte
und offenbart das Kreuz, das sich in der Konstruktion der verglasten Raumtrennung zurück-
haltend andeutet. Kapitonierter Polsterbezug in Grün charakterisiert das Dekor. Weiß, Grün,
Rot ... etwas vermisst man das Violett, als vierte Hauptfarbe der Kirche. Effektvoll erschließt
die spiralförmige Treppe die gestapelten Funktionen Aula, Multifunktionsraum und Büros.

T he St. Peter and Paul Parish Church Foundation has a lot to do. There’s so much
work, in fact, that an office extension for the foundation's retirement centre was una-
voidable. The site for the new courtyard building is situated inside a dense perimeter
block development dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries that is typical of
the district. The compact new building nestles naturally against the existing ensemble of
the old people’s home and yet, in its exclusive appearance, retains a somewhat solitary
character towards the southwest. The building sits on top of a glass plinth, which acts as
an open courtyard boundary – an architectural neologism: the continuation of the copper
cladding on the façade, the patina as such and the sweeping lower wall area with its
eaves make the saddle roof into a mansard roof. The hybrid also has a bit of an eyebrow
dormer: oculi – adorned on the outside with red, baldachin-like awnings – enlarge the
white interior. The ogee arch profiling in cross-section emphasises the centre of the buil-
ding and reveals the cross, which is subtly suggested in the construction of the glazed
room partition. Green upholstery characterises the décor. White, green, red ... one slightly
regrets the absence of violet, the fourth main liturgical colour. The spiral staircase provi-
