V or fast zwanzig Jahren wurde in Basel das Peter-Merian-Haus einge-
weiht. Das Gebäude von Zwimpfer Partner Architekten, Basel,
besteht aus sechs Baukörpern und entstand im Zusammenspiel von
Bauherren, Architekten und Künstlern. So wurde die 180 Meter lange
Fußgängerpassage von der New Yorker Künstlerin Roni Horn gestaltet und
die türkisgrün leuchtende Glasfassade vom amerikanischen Minimal-Art-
Künstler Donald Judd geplant. Zwei Gebäude hat nun Bayer Basel, ein
internationaler Life Science Hub von Bayer, umgebaut und seiner wach-
senden Belegschaft angepasst. Zahlreiche Mitarbeiter befragungen und
Nutzungsanalysen im Vorfeld sollten dazu beitragen, ein zukunftsfähiges
Arbeitsumfeld zu schaffen. Natürliche Lichtver hältnisse sind dabei ein
wesentlicher Bestandteil für Wohlbefinden und Konzentrationsfähigkeit
am Arbeitsplatz. Doch auch mit künstlicher Beleuchtung kann eine
gesunde Arbeitsumgebung geschaffen werden. Das Familienunter neh -
men Waldmann ist Pionier im Bereich des biodynamischen Lichtes,
einem künstlichen Licht, das in Beleuchtungsstärke und Farbtemperatur
dem Tagesverlauf des natürlichen Lichtes nachempfunden ist. Mit einem
Gesamtkonzept, das Arbeitsplätze wie Kommunikationsberiche und
Konferrenzräume mit unterschiedlichen, biologisch wirksamen Licht situa -
tionen ausstattet, konnte Waldmann überzeugen. Von aktivierendem,
kaltweißem Licht am Morgen bis zum entspannenden, warmweißen Licht

Architekten, Basel, consists of six structures and was a joint project of
clients, architects and artists. Thus the 180 metres long pedestrian passa-
ge, for instance, was designed by the New York artist Roni Horn and the
turquois shining glass façade was planned by the American Minimal Art
representative Donald Judd. Bayer Basel, an international Life Science
hub of the Bayer Group, has recently converted two of the buildings and
adapted them to its growing workforce. Numerous prior surveys among
employees and usage analyses were to contribute to producing a sustai-
nable work environment. Natural light conditions are an essential com-
ponent for wellbeing and concentration capacity at the workplace. But
with artificial lighting as well, it is possible to create a healthy work envi-
ronment. The Waldmann family-operated company is a pioneer in the
field of bio-dynamic light, a specific kind of artificial light which as to illu-
minance and colour temperature mimics natural light in the course of the
day. Waldmann succeeded in convincing with an overall concept which
equips the workstations as well as the communication areas and the
meeting rooms with various, biologically effective light situations. From
activating, cool-white light in the morning to relaxing, warm-white light in
