O bwohl der Schweizer Pharma-Konzern F. Hoffman La Roche inzwi-
schen weltweit agiert, befindet sich sein Hauptsitz noch immer in
Basel – der Stadt, in der Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts die Firmen ge schichte
begann. Bisher verteilten sich die 2.000 Mitarbeiter dort auf mehrere
Standorte. Anfang des Jahres jedoch wurden sie in einem Neubau zusam-
mengeführt, den das ortsansässige Archi tekturbüro Herzog & de Meuron
ent warf. Der 178 Meter hohe Bau birgt 41 Stockwerke, inklusive einer Ca -
fe teria im obersten Geschoss, und bietet zahlreiche Terrassen, die durch
die Verjüngung des Turms nach oben entstanden. Sie sind Teil des
Kommuni ka tionskonzeptes, das eine wichtige Rolle im Entwurf spielte.
So soll der Austausch unter den Mit ar beitern aktiv gefördert werden. Im
Innenraum erfüllen dieses Ziel neben der flexiblen Grundrissgliederung
die flächenbündigen sowie raumhohen Glastrennwände und -türen der
Firma Strähle. Das Waiblinger Unternehmen ist auf die Ent wicklung von
Raum-Systemen spezialisiert und hat für den Bau sowohl bestehende
Produkte des doppelschaligen Ganz glassystems 1200 verwendet als auch
Spezial lösungen gefertigt. Je nach Einsatzort erfüllen sie die geforderten
Schall schutzvorgaben, Brand schutzauflagen, absturzsichernde Funk tio -
nen und sind mit automatischen Türöffnern sowie -schließern, Panik -
sicherung, Zutritts kontrolle und Zeiterfassung ausgestattet. Für eine aufge-
lockerte Wand gliederung im Bereich der Aufzüge wiederum wurden
gewellte, rückseitig weiß lackierte ESG-Formglaselemente hergestellt. ds

La Roche operates globally, the headquarters are still in Basel – in
the very city where the company history started at the end of the 19th
century. Until now, the 2,000 employees there worked in several diffe-
rent locations. At the beginning of the year, however, they were brought
together in a new building designed by the local architectural office
Herzog & de Meuron. The 178 metre high building has 41 levels inclu-
ding a cafeteria on the top floor and offers numerous terraces origina-
ting due to the upward tapering of the tower. The exchange between the
employees is thus to be actively encouraged. In the interiors, besides
by the flexible layout structuring, this goal is accomplished by the flush-
mounted as well as ceiling-high glass partitions and glass doors from
the Strähle company. The Waiblingen firm specializes in the develop-
ment of room systems and use existing products of the 1200 double-
shell all-glass system for the building as well as manufacturing special
solutions. Depending on where they are installed, they meet the requi-
red sound-insulation standards, fire-prevention regulations, fall-protec-
tion functions as well as being equipped with automatic door openers
and –closers, panic locks, access control and time recording. For lively
