been renovated and modernized as part of the refurbishment. While the original propor-
tions of the rooms have been exposed, new lighting systems and technologies meet the
requirements of contemporary and flexible exhibitions. From the end of this year until
2030, the Centre Pompidou, the first ever joint work by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers
which has been completed in 1977, is to be extensively renovated.
Accessibility and safety
The exhibitions and collections of this iconic Parisian cultural institution will be moved
to the Grand Palais for the duration of the renovation. The latest amenities there inclu-
de a range of dining options. Visitors and external guests can take a break on a new
mezzanine floor at Le Réséda Café, designed by l’Atelier Senzu and Samy Rio. Alter-
natively, there is the Brasserie Le Grand Café in the main nave. The interior has been
designed by Joseph Dirand. The green terrace, framed by the Ionic columns of the
façade, exudes stunning Belle Époque charm and offers a magnificent view of the Petit
Palais opposite. The renovation and restructuring of this Parisian architectural icon
are a gain for the public, for Paris and an investment in the preservation of historical
building culture. The work of Chatillon Architectes is impressive: the new old Grand
Palais was recently awarded the Prix Versailles 2025, which recognizes the most beau-
tiful museums in the world. Until 4th January 2026, this Parisian landmark is hosting Foto: Cyrille Weiner, FR-Paris
an exhibition on the artist couple Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely, as well as the
first director of the Centre Pompidou, Pontus Hultèn.
