ty were requirements for all fixtures and fittings – therefore, where possible, all corpus
items were made in the same width. Incidentally, an interior design that in some way
resists flooding, which will hopefully never occur again with the force of 2021, was
expressly not a requirement. Firstly, the hope and belief in a better future of the people
in the city is stronger and, secondly, no materials and fixtures, let alone the sensitive
books, could withstand another flood. No, the new, bright, cheerful bookshop should
instead embody a new start and radiate positive energy.

Elegant presentation of new adult literature

Right next to the large sales area, there is another small but attractive room, also part
of the bookshop, which can only be accessed via a separate entrance. This “jewelle-
ry box” houses the new adult department as well as complementary products such
as calendars and seasonal themes. The floral wallpaper on the ceiling matches the
colours of the rest of the store and determines the colour scheme for the walls and
fixtures as well as the integrated “reading arch”. The third space-structuring archway
in the bookshop serves as a cosy, upholstered place to read and linger. The spatial
concept thrives on feminine accents, a harmonious colour scheme and grand gestures
that create an exciting setting for small spaces. The shop was designed to be “personal,
cosy and warm”, with more colour than usual for a feeling of home. It was a particular
pleasure to interpret the client’s abstract wishes and to design a world that she would
never have dreamed of, but always wanted. Wandabwicklungen • Wall development
