Their aim to do things differently runs like a bold thread
Ana Milena Hernández Palacios und Christophe Penasse through their work and culminates in their own home,
which skilfully combines tradition and progression.
A fter the creative and life partners Ana Milena Hernández Palacios
and Christophe Penasse immediately fell in love with the traditio-
nal manor house built in 1925 on the outskirts of Valencia, everything
happened very quickly and the search for a suitable property was for-
tunately over: “The house had everything – a beautiful setting, the right
size to live upstairs and work downstairs, lots of light and the typical fea-
tures of an old Valencian villa,” recalls the founding duo of the Spanish
studio. “Our aim was to preserve the essence of this historic character
and respect the beauty of its past.” Cement tiled floors, ornate wooden
doors, ceilings and decorative brick walls were therefore retained and
complemented by an extravagant vocabulary of colours and shapes with
the use of curtains in different colours to add a touch of warmth to
the space. While the design measures on the ground floor still respond
subtly to the existing substance, the interior designer‘s signature style is
clearer in the living area on the upper floor: a play of square, triangular
Grundriss Erdgeschoss • Ground floor plan and round contours dominates the rooms – paired with a touch of bru-
talism, which is reinvented in the contrasting mixture of colours, mate-
rials, textures and shapes. This is most evident in the bedroom, where
the bright yellow-green bed with its oversized, spherical headboard is
both an eye-catcher and a refuge: “This dome offers us the opportunity
to switch off completely at the end of the day. It was designed by our
studio and manufactured using a 3D robot.” The counterpart to this
is a semi-circular, red seating- and reading area, which was furnished
with pastel-coloured furniture from Mas Creations’ own collection. The
explosion of colours and shapes can also be felt in the kitchen and
living room. Delicate blue-green meets expressive yellow, bright pink
and dark fir green, round seating surfaces meet angular furniture sculp-
tures and hard, cool materials such as aluminium, marble and mirrors
meet warm, room-high textile curtains. The new domicile thus manifests
Masquespacio’s philosophy down to even the smallest detail: “The pro-
ject represents our development as well as our artistic style: from our
