B ereits 2008 bau te Matali Crasset im Auftrag von Michèle Monory ein abgelegenes
Bauernhaus zum Feriendomizil aus. Seit 2011 liefert Crasset zudem regelmäßig Ent-
würfe für Monorys Schmucklabel. Außerdem residieren beide – Crassets Designbüro wie
auch Monorys Firma Le Buisson – im gleichen Haus. Zu Beginn dieses Jahres folgte nun
der Umbau von Monorys neuer 80 Quadratmeter großen Stadtwohnung im Herzen von
Paris. Hier wohnt die Bauherrin im neunten Stock eines modernen Wohnhochhauses.
Crassets Auftrag war es, den vorgefundenen, eher konventionellen Grundriss – drei Zim-
mer, Küche, Bad – zu öffnen und neu zu organisieren. Entstanden ist ein großzügiger Ein-
raum mit einem einheitlichen, moosgrünen Linoleumboden, der zusammen mit den
knallgrünen Kücheninseln einen Wald (Le Bosquet) symbolisieren soll. Bett und Bad ver-
bergen sich hinter Glastrennwänden. Das Bad ist zudem durch einen Sichtschutz aus
raumhohen, in Gelb und Orange eingelassenen Metalllamellen abgeschirmt. Letztere bil-
den auch das markanteste Element des Raumes: eine bewegliche, kreisförmig geführte
und in den Farben des Regenbogens (Le Rainbow) la ckierte Sichtschutzwand. Sie um-
schließt ein breites Daybed. Je nach Stellung der Wand entsteht um die Tagesliege herum
eine intime oder weniger intime Atmosphäre. In seiner unkonventionellen und kraftvol-
len Art ist das Apartment ein perfekter Spiegel für die Persönlichkeit seiner Bewohnerin.

A lready in 2008, Matali Crasset had been commissioned by Michèle Monory to
convert a remote farmhouse into a holiday home. Since 2011, Crasset has also
been regularly supplying designs for Monory’s jewellery label. In addition, both Cras-
set’s design studio as well as Monory’s company Le Buisson reside in the same
house. Early this year followed the conversion of Monory’s new 80 square-metre city
apartment in the heart of Paris. Here the building client lives on the ninth floor of a
modern residential tower. Crasset’s task was to open and newly organize the exi-
sting, rather conventional layout – three rooms, kitchen, bathroom. The result is a
large single room with a moss-green linoleum floor which, together with the bright
green kitchen units, is to symbolize a grove (Le Bosquet). The bed and the bathroom
are concealed behind glass partitions. The bathroom is shielded by a sight protection
consisting of room-high inset metal lamellae in yellow and orange. These also pro-
duce the most striking element: a screening wall movable in a circle and painted in
rainbow colours (Le Rainbow) which surrounds a daybed. Depending on the position
of the wall, privacy is created around the daybed. In its unconventional and vibrant
way, the apartment is a perfect mirror of its resident’s personality.
