I n Anlehnung an Jennifer Lopez’ Hitsingle „Jenny from the block“ benannte die in die-
sem Viertel aufgewachsene Inhaberin Jenny ihr Café und Deli „Jenny vom Block“. Auf
158 Quadratmetern konnte Mete Ay sein erstes Soloprojekt verwirklichen. Anfang 2025
eröffnete das internationale Restaurant in der Augsburger Innenstadt. Aufgeteilt in zwei
Funktionsbereiche, befindet sich auf dem unteren Level ein Café, in dem tagsüber Geträn-
ke und kleine Speisen an der Theke verkauft werden. Eine halbe Etage höher ist der
klassische Gastraum angesiedelt, hier ist Platz für den Mittagstisch und die Dinnergäste.
Einfache Lösungen wie die durchgehende, wandbündige Sitzbank verleihen dem Raum
zusätzliche Flexibilität, sodass sich beispielsweise eine große Tafel über die gesamte
Länge des Raumes erstrecken kann. Auf beiden Ebenen des Altbaus finden sich farbige
Akzente: Neben den blau gefliesten Theken wurden verschiedene Einbauten aus durch-
gefärbten MDF-Platten gefertigt, aber auch die alte Holzbalkendecke wurde passend im
entsprechenden Farbton gestrichen. Rote pulverbeschichtete Barhocker, Tischgestelle und
Leuchten kontrastieren mit dem vorherrschenden Blauton. So spiegelt sich die Vielfalt
der internationalen Speisekarte auch räumlich in der Gaststätte wider, auch die Holz-
oberflächen greifen die natürlichen Zutaten des A-la-Carte-Menüs auf. Fein aufeinander
abgestimmt, erinnert die Materialkomposition an ein sorgfältig arrangiertes Gericht.
I nspired by Jennifer Lopez’s hit single “Jenny from the Block,” owner Jenny – who grew
up in this neighbourhood – named her café and deli “Jenny vom Block”. Covering 158
square metres, the venue marks the first solo project of interior designer Mete Ay. The
international restaurant opened in early 2025 in the city centre of Augsburg. Divided into
two functional areas, the lower level houses a café where drinks and small dishes are
served at the counter during the day. Half a storey up is the typical main dining area, desi-
gned with enough space to accommodate lunch and dinner guests. Simple design solu-
tions such as a continuous, wall-mounted bench add flexibility to the space – allowing,
for example, a long communal table to stretch the entire length of the room. Both levels
of the historical building feature colour accents: alongside blue-tiled counters, various
built-in elements were made from through-dyed MDF panels, and even the old wooden
beam ceiling was painted in a matching hue. Red powder-coated barstools, table frames
and light fixtures contrast with the dominant blue shade. In this way, the spatial design
reflects the diversity of the international menu, while the wooden surfaces echo the natu-
ral ingredients of the à la carte selection. Carefully coordinated, the material composition
evokes the feel of a thoughtfully arranged dish.
