W er die Hotelprojekte von Matteo Thun & Partners kennt, weiß, dass deren
Retreats eine explizit nachhaltige, den Kontext respektierende, ökologische Philo-
sophie zugrunde liegt. Mit dem Chiemgauhof – Lakesite Retreat haben die Hospitality-Spe-
zialisten Anfang Februar ein 5-Sterne-Plus-Hotel direkt am „Bayerischen Meer“ realisiert
und damit den Charme alter Holzscheunen neu interpretiert. „Contemporary Bavarian“
nennt das Mailänder Architektur- und Innenarchitekturstudio diesen Ansatz, der regiona-
les Erbe und zeitgemäße Willkommenskultur auf einen Nenner bringt. Natürliche Mate-
rialien – Lärchen-, Eichen-, Fichtenholz, Schindeln, Naturstein und Marmor – bestimmen
in diesem mehrteiligen Holzbaukomplex die ruhige und beruhigende Atmosphäre. Klar
ist: Der Chiemsee soll in diesem Setting die Hauptrolle spielen. Raumhohe Glasfronten
offerieren (ent-)spannende Blicke aufs Wasser und holen die Natur förmlich ins Haus.
Holztreppen führen vom Check-in-Bereich (Foto rechts) direkt zu den Zimmern und Suiten
im Obergeschoss (Foto links). Lokalkolorit vermitteln im Chiemgauhof typisch bayerische
Schnitzereien, handgewebte Teppiche aus dem Chiemgau und Kacheln für die Kamine,
welche von der Inseltöpferei auf der Fraueninsel stammen. Japanische und regionale
Einflüsse überlagern sich hingegen im Bootshaus. Geflammtes Holz prägt diesen Pavillon,
eine Oase der Ruhe mit Kamin, Bar, Tearoom sowie See- und Poolblick.
A nyone familiar with the hotel projects of Matteo Thun & Partners knows that their
retreats are founded on an explicitly sustainable and ecologically mindful philoso-
phy that respects the context. With the Chiemgauhof – Lakesite Retreat, the hospitality
specialists have created a five-star-plus hotel directly on the shores of Lake Chiemsee,
reinterpreting the charm of traditional wooden barns. The Milan-based architecture and
interior design studio describes the approach as Contemporary Bavarian, a fusion of
regional heritage and contemporary hospitality. Natural materials – larch, oak, and spruce
wood, shingles, natural stone and marble – shape the calm and comforting atmosphere
of the multi-volume timber complex. One thing is clear: Lake Chiemsee is meant to take
centre stage. Floor-to-ceiling glass fronts offer scenic views to relax or spark the senses
and virtually bring the outdoors in. Wooden staircases lead from the check-in area direc-
tly to the rooms and suites on the upper level. Local character is reflected in traditional
Bavarian wood carvings, handwoven rugs from the Chiemgau region and tiled fireplaces
featuring ceramics crafted by the island pottery studio on Fraueninsel. The boathouse lay-
ers Japanese and regional influences. Charred wood defines this tranquil pavilion, which
houses a fireplace, bar, tearoom and offers views of both lake and pool.
