N ordlicht am Jangtsekiang? Was zunächst wie ein meteorologisches Kuriosum klingt,
ist in Wirklichkeit das Konzept eines Hotels, das norddeutsches Flair mitten in China
verankert. Die Innenarchitektur für das neue Maritim-Hotel in Taicang stammt von Susan-
ne Brandherm und Sabine Krumrey – und übersetzt das Markenmotto „Feel the breath of
Northern Germany“ elegant. Der Komplex mit 150 Zimmern und Suiten, separatem Confe-
rence Center sowie Business- und Retailflächen entsteht in einem neu entwickelten Stadt-
quartier, das auf Qualität und Atmosphäre europäischer Prägung setzt. Schon äußerlich
verweist das Bauwerk auf diese kulturelle Verortung: Inspiriert von den Altstädten Nord-
deutschlands erinnert die Fassade an ein historisches Gästehaus. Im Inneren empfängt die
Besucher eine großzügige Lobby mit maritimer Anmutung. Materialien wie dunkle Eiche,
Messing oder Marmor treffen auf klassische Formensprache und moderne Klarheit. Blau-
und Grautöne strukturieren Raumzonen und setzen Akzente – im Kontrast zu naturbelasse-
nen Oberflächen. Details wie Delfter Keramik oder schiffsähnliche Leuchten spielen eben-
falls auf das gestalterische Leitmotiv an. Der angeschlossene Gastronomiebereich fungiert
als Frühstücksraum am Morgen, Lounge am Nachmittag und Event-Bar am Abend. Auch
hier prägt nordische Noblesse das Erscheinungsbild – mit tiefblauen Polstermöbeln und
gebürstetem Metall. Die Flure wiederum sind wie Wandelgänge einer Galerie gestaltet.
N orthern lights on the Yangtze? What sounds like a meteorological curiosity is in fact
the concept behind a hotel that brings a northern German touch to the heart of
China. The interior design for the new Maritim Hotel in Taicang was created by Susanne
Brandherm and Sabine Krumrey – an elegant translation of the brand’s motto “Feel the
breath of Northern Germany”. The complex, featuring 150 rooms and suites, business and
retail spaces and a separate conference centre, is part of a newly developed urban district
that combines quality with a European-inspired atmosphere. The building already hints
at this cultural origin: inspired by the historic town centres of northern Germany, the faça-
de resembles that of a traditional guesthouse. Inside, guests are welcomed by a spacious,
maritime-style lobby. Materials such as dark oak, brass and marble are paired with a
classical design language and modern clarity. Shades of blue and grey structure the space
and add colour accents, contrasting with natural, untreated surfaces. Details such as delft-
ware and ship-like light fixtures further reinforce the design concept. The restaurant area
serves as a breakfast room in the morning, a lounge in the afternoon and an event bar in
the evening. Here too, Nordic elegance sets the tone with deep blue upholstered furniture
and brushed metal finishes. The corridors are designed as gallery-like passageways.
