viting appearance of the space. A mix of seating supports the relaxed atmosphere, while a central
bar adds lively accents to the heart of the restaurant. The 64-seat Pavilion restaurant at the aft ensures
that guests can enjoy the outdoors whatever the weather. The circular open partition adds a touch of
exclusivity, but also helps to ensure that all travellers can enjoy the view outside. A green circular
bench becomes the focal point of the room, and a skylight rotunda lets the sunshine in, even in colder
weather. Outside, guests can fully immerse themselves in nature and daydream. The A-Rosa Sena
Market buffet restaurants is also able to cater to larger travel groups with numerous freestanding ta-
bles and flexible seating. An open kitchen offers live cooking, while the café with 47 seats at the en- Jungfernfahrt auf dem Rhein: A-Rosa Sena • Maiden voyage on the Rhine: A-Rosa Sena

Luxurious accents otherwise found on a private yacht furthermore inspired the design of the lounge. Grundriss Oberdeck • Floor plan upperdeck
The adjacent Winery on the port side offers private seating and a breath-taking panorama that guests
can enjoy through the large windows with a chilled glass of wine and gathered around the custom-
made wine barrel. While guests can watch the sunset from three different outdoor spots on the ship,
the up and down bar on the sun deck is a special highlight, serving cool refreshments right by the
pools. If necessary, the bar can be moved into the floor so that it disappears from the deck for a short
time. Here, too, the concept was inspired by yacht design and integrated a slightly lowered level
where guests can relax in a sheltered setting. The privileged location right at the bow of the ship in-
spired the name of the special outdoor lounge: Captain’s View. The Spa Rosa, in turn, is all about re- Grundriss Lobby Oberdeck • Floor plan Lobby upperdeck
laxing in a luxurious and tranquil environment. Custom-made furniture with individual functions is
the focus in this special area of the ship. After an eventful day of long walks in the city, guests can in-
dulge in a variety of wellness treatments to recover from the adventures of their sightseeing. The re-
laxation room exudes cosiness, just like in a spa on land. The focal point is the fireplace, while guests
can relax on the comfortable lounge chairs. A spacious Finnish sauna, Jacuzzi, whirlpool, fitness
room, ice grotto and heat bench are also incorporated into the ship’s spa area.
The landscape is definitely part of the interior design

The A-Rosa Sena accommodates 280 guests with 119 balcony cabins, seven balcony suites, two bar-
rier-free cabins and 12 family cabins. The design of the cabins is in close interaction with nature,
which is also evident in the open layout of the rooms and the direct access to the outside via the bal-
conies. From the greens of spring to the ambers of winter, the landscape is always part of the interior
design. In addition, a harmonious watercolour palette was chosen to subtly blend in with the sur- Grundriss Spa • Floor plan Spa
roundings. The cabins are a retreat for the guests. From here, you can watch the landscape pass by,
whether from the bed or a chaise longue. This can also be used as a sleeping place for children. Fur-
thermore, the compartments of the chaise longue offer additional storage space for guests. Carefully
planned furnishings in the 16.6-square-metre standard cabins, the 23-square-metre suites and 28.6-
square-metre family cabins maximize space while offering plenty of thoughtful comfort, just like in
a hotel: a multi-purpose desk becomes a dressing table, a workplace or a play table for children. De-
tails such as a mirror with a built-in jewellery compartment add to the guests’ comfort. Modernity
meets tradition with an elegant detail that immediately brings a smile to the lips: a vase next to the
mirror is reserved for the rose that guests are presented with by the staff at boarding. Since family ca-
bins are rare for river cruise ships, JOI-Design has created a new room concept where children feel
welcome. Bunk beds are equipped with “portholes” that give free rein to the imagination while allo-
wing parents to peek in when the curtains are drawn for sleeping. A net of taut ribbons on the wall
offers children the opportunity to hang artwork they have previously created in the cabin play area.
The bathrooms have been adapted to the quality standards of a hotel. A sophisticated tone-on-tone
palette and a generous washstand with open shelves and plenty of storage space provide the neces-
sary comfort. The combination of different lighting qualities ensures the setting of different room
moods and a calming ambience. The interior design of the crew areas was created with the same care
as the public areas. “The crew cabins, recreation areas and cafeteria are high quality,” says Anne Grundriss Standardzimmer • Floor plan standard room
Wolff, “because staff who are positive and feel cared for treat guests with care.”

             Tailor-made offers for families

“The focus on family is an important aspect of making the journey on the A-Rosa Sena an experience
for young couples and families,” says Nicola Voss, interior designer in JOI-Design’s cruise-ship depart-
ment. “The children in our studio’s creative team even helped design the children’s area. Their ideas
led to the inclusion of a ‘cave’ in the kids’ area, where the children can hide and have their own place
to ‘retreat!’” There is also a separate children’s pool on the sun terrace for enjoying a dip out in the
open air. “Our vision was to revolutionize river cruises and refresh them with the spirit of the hotels we
have already designed on land,” says Corinna Kretschmar-Joehnk, founder and partner of JOI-Design.
“The different areas reflect the diverse needs of multi-generational guests, with places available to ex-
plore or play, for wellness or rest. On board the A-Rosa Sena, the stress of everyday life disappears.”
