B eers, beach and baos! So könnte man den Lifestyle von Xete, Tito und Elena be-
schreiben. Die drei Freunde aus Valencia vereint die Lust am Reisen und Surfen. Die
Idee zu Baovan fiel ihnen natürlich auf Reisen ein, als sie in den Genuss der gedämpften,
chinesischen Bao-Teigtaschen kamen. Zunächst als Take-away-Service in Valencia eta-
bliert, wuchs Baovan rasant an und jetzt gibt es eine erste dauerhafte Niederlassung im
trendigen Stadtteil Ruzafa. Damit gesellt sich das Lokal in eine hippe Umgebung aus Bars,
Shops und Cafés. Für die Gestaltung holten sie sich die Hilfe von Clap Studio ins Boot.
Das Kreativduo erneuerte den Boho-Look des jungen Unternehmens und orientierte sich
an Spirit und Claim – beers, beach and baos – der Marke. Das Ziel: Die Besucher an einen
Strand zu versetzen, von wo aus sie den Sonnenuntergang beobachten und ein paar
handgemachte Baos genießen können. Dazu wird der Innen- und Außenraum in drei mo-
nochrom eingefärbte Bereiche gegliedert: Außen die grüne Vegetation, die mit Seilen das
Dickicht der Natur andeutet, innen die Dualität aus Strand und Wasser. Ein Bildschirm
in Form eines Halbmondes stellt die Farben eines Sonnenuntergangs nach, während an
der Decke eine Wolkenlandschaft schwebt. Runde Formen, inspiriert durch das Bao-Brot,
wiederholen sich im Raum und finden sich in den exklusiv für das Restaurant entworfe-
nen Stühlen wieder: rund und gefaltet – wie eine leckere, fluffige Bao-Tasche!

B eers, beach and baos! That’s how you could describe the lifestyle of Xete, Tito and
Elena. The three friends from Valencia are united by their love of travelling and sur-
fing. They came up with the idea for Baovan when – while travelling, of course – they
enjoyed steamed Chinese bao dumplings. Initially established as a take-away service
in Valencia, Baovan grew rapidly and now opened its first permanent branch in the
trendy Ruzafa district. The restaurant blends in with a hip environment of bars, shops
and cafés. For the design, the friends brought in Clap Studio. The creative duo revamped
the boho look of the young company and took their cue from the brand’s spirit and
claim – beers, beach and baos. The objective: to give visitors the feeling of being on a
beach where they can watch the sunset and enjoy a few handmade bao buns. To
achieve this, the interior and exterior spaces are divided into three monochrome colou-
red areas: green vegetation on the outside, with ropes suggesting the thicket of nature,
and the duality of beach and water on the inside. A screen in the shape of a crescent
moon recreates the colours of a sunset, whilae clouds float on the ceiling. Round shapes
inspired by bao buns are repeatedly used in the room and are echoed in the chairs de-
signed exclusively for the restaurant: round and folded – like a delicious, fluffy bao bun!
