RESTAURANT LA VISONE
IN DENKENDORF
All good things come in threes – that is probably why the
balancing act between an Italian restaurant, a coworking
space and an employee meeting point was a success. La
Visione is a surprising and exciting project which the Ob-
ject Carpet manufacturer implemented at its new head-
quarters in Denkendorf – supported by the Ippolito Fleitz
Group who here lit up a firework of colours and textiles.
T he beginning of February saw the kick-off for the gastronomy project
in Denkendorf, a small town in the vicinity of Stuttgart. This is
where, over the last three years, a five-storey administration building
had been constructed which the clients Roland and Daniel Butz, the
founder of Object Carpet and his son, had commissioned from Hank +
Hirth Architekten of Eningen unter Achalm. The so-called Object Campus
is the new heart of the company and provides its employees with a mo-
dern work environment according to the principles of the New Work phi-
losophy. Daniel Butz, who manages the operational business, calls it the
City of Visions and the name of the restaurant located on the ground
floor also alludes to this. The idea – or, better, the vision – of combining
one’s own campus with a public restaurant, however, was born of ne-
cessity. The new building is located in an industrial zone; good gastro-
nomic services for lunch breaks, the cappuccino in the afternoon and the
after-work beer are therefore scarce. And thus an elongated segment was
soon found in the layout where the vision of La Visione could be success-
fully realized. For the design, Roland and Daniel Butz enlisted the help
of the Ippolito Fleitz Group experienced in the field of designing restau-
rants. Close cooperation with the team from Stuttgart currently already
exists anyway: On the one hand, a carpet collection was just launched
by the office and, on the other hand, there were plans for a joint presen-
tation at this year’s Milan furniture fair. For the Denkendorf location, the
architects developed a multi-layered interior. The lounge, right after the
entrance, has various seating areas at different heights. During the day,
it serves as a coworking space for guests and employees. Adjacent to this
is the actual restaurant which is an exhibition area at the same time
since the planners turned the curved wall towards the kitchen into a tex-
tile collage of corduroy, damask, burlap and – of course – carpeting floo-
ring. A wide window furthermore allows views into the kitchen. The end-
point of the flowing room sequence is the wine bar. This is where one
meets during the day for confidential talks and in the evenings – in a fa-
