The city of Granada in the south of Spain is famous for its
history: In the Middle Ages, this is where the Moors built
their fortress- and palace ensemble called Alhambra. The
World Heritage Site attracts millions of cultural tourists to
Granada. In the old city, an additional attraction now
joins the ranks of the existing ensemble of the cathedral,
various museums and galleries as well as preserved
Moorish buildings: The Centro Federico García Lorca
reminding of the famous Spanish poet of the 20th centu-
ry. The construction seamlessly fits into the historic sur-
roundings; the new cultural building stands at the end of
a low slope bordered by inconspicuous façades. It opens
to the city and, with an unexpected gesture, leads the
visitors inside where an “eloquent void” awaits them:
The foyer is designed like a square and extends through
the building. It is generously illuminated via the façade as

Bekannt ist die südspanische Stadt Granada für ihre
Geschichte: Im Mittelalter erbauten die Mauren hier die
Festungs- und Palastanlage Alhambra. Das Weltkultur -
erbe lockt Millionen Kulturtouristen nach Granada. In
der Altstadt reiht sich heute eine weitere Sehens wür dig -
keit in das bestehende Ensemble aus der Kathe drale,

maurischen Bauten ein: Das Centro Federico García
Lorca erinnert an den berühmten spanischen Poeten
des 20. Jahrhunderts. Fließend fügt sich der Bau in die
historische Umgebung ein, am Ende eines flachen
Hangs, der von dezenten Fassaden gesäumt wird, steht
der neue Kulturbau. Er öffnet sich zur Stadt und führt
