MARIANUM IN HEGNE

B ereits 2009 hatte LRO einen bestehenden Altbau zum Bildungszentrum Marianum
ausgebaut. Betrieben wird die katholische Privatschule von den Nonnen des benach-
barten Klosters Hegne, nahe Konstanz mit herrlichem Blick über den Untersee und die
Insel Reichenau gelegen. Der pädagogische Erfolg des Marianums machte eine Erweite-
rung notwendig – weitere Unterrichts-, Verwaltungsräume und Lehrerzimmer für 170
SchülerInnen und 20 Lehrkräfte wurden benötigt. In Lage und Abmessungen bezieht sich
der 109 Meter lange und rund 12 Meter breite, zweigeschossige Neubau auf das Bestands-
gebäude, gibt dem Straßenraum eine klare Fassung und definiert den nördlichen Ab-
schluss des Campusgeländes. Mit einem der beiden Schulhöfe, Mensa und Haupteingang
im Altbau komplettiert sich eine neue Mitte als gemeinsamer Treffpunkt. Eine an die Casa
Malaparte erinnernde Rampe knüpft die Verbindung zur Natur und erdet den kräftigen,
skulpturalen Baukörper, der seinen Hochpunkt in einem der Treppenhäuser hat. Mit Aus-
nahme der in Sichtbeton ausgeführten Flurwand zu den Klassenzimmern sind alle Wände
im Innenraum verputzt, gespachtelt und weiß gestrichen. Als Bodenbelag wurde grünes
Linoleum gewählt, schallabsorbierende, feuerfeste Holzwolleplatten prägen die Decken-
gestaltung und erleichtern die Revisionierbarkeit. Die ruhige Kraft des Neubaus spiegelt
das pädagogische Konzept wider, die Materialwahl unterstreicht die Wertigkeit.

L RO had already converted an old building into the Marianum education centre in
2009. The private Catholic school is run by the nuns of the neighbouring Hegne Mo-
nastery, located near Constance with a magnificent view over the Lower Lake Constance
and the island of Reichenau. The educational success of the Marianum made an exten-
sion necessary — more classrooms, administration and staff rooms for 170 pupils and 20
teachers were needed. The 109-metre-long, 12-metre-wide, two-storey new building rela-
tes to the existing building in terms of location and dimensions, clearly frames the street
space and defines the northern end of the campus grounds. One of the two schoolyards,
the refectory and the main entrance in the old building complete a new centre as a com-
mon meeting place. A ramp reminiscent of Casa Malaparte connects the building to its
natural surroundings and grounds the solid, sculptural building, its high point being one
of the stairwells. With the exception of the corridor wall to the classrooms, which is made
of fair-faced concrete, all interior walls are rendered, smoothed and painted white. Green
linoleum was chosen as floor covering, sound-absorbing, fire-resistant wood-wool bo-
ards characterise the ceiling design and facilitate revision. The calm power of the new
building reflects the pedagogical concept, the choice of materials underlines the quality.
