lectures and conferences. In order to generally affect the building stock as little as possi-
ble, for all the interventions Šépka designed mobile room-in-the-room solutions of
amber-shimmering, translucent laminate which is mounted without any joints onto a
steel construction. In the riding hall, the construction clearly stands out from the stock
and, despite its massive appearance, in no way reduces the generous spatial impression.
Since it rests on rails, the stage can be moved around in the room. To suit all require-
ments, the distance and thus the delimitations from the stationary supply unit can be set
which contains the functions such as dressing rooms for the performers, the technology
and the toilet facilities. The floor covered with laminate panels can be individually ele- Kutscherhaus – Erd- und Obergeschoss • Carriage House – ground and first floor
vated, tilted to form stands or mobile walls can be added for exhibitions. A café has now
been opened on the ground floor of the former carriage house. This building as well has
had later additions and installations removed inside and outside and been covered with
the noble-looking lime wash. The wooden doors of the arched openings were removed
on both longitudinal sides and replaced with glass which produced a direct visual con-
nection with the courtyard. The mobile laminate furniture dominates in the cleared inte-
rior. Along the axis of each of the five arches is a different function along the short sides
of the layout. A counter follows the functional blocks serving as storage space, the ice-
cream counter and the bar. At the end are two islands with rows of tables in their centre,
communicative seating ensembles cast from one mould. In the course of the renovation,
the administration of the whole complex was moved from the ground floor to the upper Kutscherhaus – Längsschnitt und Ansicht • Carriage House – longitudinal section and elevation
level. For this purpose, a new staircase panelled with laminate was first added along the
axis of the fifth arch. Besides the classic office and meeting rooms, now a flexibly desi-
gned area for project-specific working in teams of different sizes is available.

climb and play in the summer pavilion between the carriage house and the castle. The
filigree pavilion in lightweight construction consists of steel tubes assembled into trian-
gles with nets stretched between them. For the form, the architect took his inspiration
from the shape of a kite which seems to have landed in the courtyard of the castle. The 1
L-shaped open space between the outbuildings and the outer walls of the castle, whose
elaborate sgraffito was revealed in the 1970s, is today divided into two rectangular cour- 2 5
tyards with a long bench and has a stepped seating surface. Like everything which was
newly added, this seating is also made of amber-coloured laminate. As a consequence, 4
there is everywhere a clear as well as respectful distinction from the stock which is many 3 6
centuries old. Last but not least, new life was breathed into the park in the north of the
castle. Šépka replaced it with a mobile construction. Overall, the emphasis in the park
with plenty of old trees was on the reconstruction of the network of waterways. Beginning
at the castle pond, the highest point, their course was planned based on a computer-
generated network all the way to a grotto which was renovated according to original
drawings. The whole park is studded with crystal-shaped seats of the by now familiar
material laminate which serves to bring us back to the beginning of the tour. Gesamtübersicht der Anlage • Gesamtübersicht der Anlage Overall view of the ensemble
