In der Schweiz gibt es Hunderte von Stadttheatern, Restaurants zum Irgendwas, Mehr zweck -
hallen und Gemeinschaftszentren. In dieser Schweiz ist der Schauspieler, Kabarettist und
Drehbuchautor Beat Schlatter seit über 30 Jahren unterwegs. Sein Spleen: Immer wenn er auf
Tournee ist, fotografiert er die Räume hinter der Bühne, wo alle – egal ob Star oder Stern -
chen – auf ihren Auftritt warten. Nun hat der Künstler sein Fotoarchiv geöffnet und ge meinsam
mit dem Verlag Scheidegger & Spiess einen großartigen Bildband über diese „Tran sit zonen
des Showbusiness“ veröffentlich. Die Erkenntnis: Backstage-Räume sind trist – die gewöhnli-
chen genauso wie die skurrilen. Da hilft dann auch kein gut gemeinter Obstkorb mehr!

There are hundreds of municipal theatres, restaurants called this and that, multifunctional
halls and community centres in Switzerland. This is the Switzerland in which the actor, caba-
ret artist and script writer Beat Schlatter has been traveling around for more than 30 years.
His extraordinary habit: Whenever he is on tour, he takes photographs of the rooms behind
the scenes where everyone – whether a star or a starlet – is waiting for their entrances. Now
the artist has opened his photo archive and published a magnificent illustrated book regar-
ding these “transit zones of show business” at Scheidegger & Spiess publishers. The conclu-
sion: Backstage rooms are dreary. A well-meant fruit basket doesn’t really help!
