N ichts Geringeres als das soziale Wohlergehen und der Kampf gegen die ökologische
Krise treibt die Arbeit der Stiftung Tiina and Antti Herlin und Maj and Tor Nessling
an. Eine ziemlich große Aufgabe, die vor allem von der Forschung geprägt ist und für
die sie nun in einer historischen Stadtvilla in Helsinki Räumlichkeiten gefunden haben.
Mithilfe der kreativen Köpfe von Mint & More entstand ein Ort für die Arbeit und den
Austausch der Forschenden und Mitarbeitenden der Stiftungen, der sinnbildlich für das
Wirken der Stiftungen steht: Den sensiblen Umgang mit dem Bestehenden. Nach einer
gründlichen Sanierung durch SARC Architects entwickelte Mint & More ein Innenraum-
konzept für die Stadtvilla, das nicht nur die ökologischen Werte der Stiftungen berück-
sichtigt, sondern auch dem Charakter der historischen Bausubstanz entspricht. Stück
für Stück hat das Team jedes einzelne Möbelstück aus zweiter Hand aufgespürt und
aufgearbeitet. Was nicht käuflich zu erwerben war, wurde mithilfe lokaler Schreiner
aus nachhaltigem Holz angefertigt. Diese Liebe zum Detail sieht man den Räumen an!
Sowohl die öffentlichen Bereiche im Erdgeschoss mit Bibliothek und Restaurant als auch
die Arbeits-, Co-Working- und Forschungsbereiche erstrahlen im neuen, alten Glanz.
Ohne Ehrfurcht, aber mit Respekt haben Mint and More die Stadtvilla in die Gegenwart
geholt und ihre Geschichte fortgeschrieben. Ein modernes Stück Zeitgeschichte.
N othing less than social welfare and the fight against the ecological crisis drives the
work of the Tiina and Antti Herlin Foundation and the Maj and Tor Nessling Foun-
dation. It’s quite a daunting task, primarily characterised by research, for which they
have now found new premises in a historical city villa in Helsinki. With the help of the
creative minds at the design agency Mint & More, a space for the work and exchange of
researchers and staff of the foundations was created, which symbolises the work of both
institutions: handling the already existing with sensitivity. Following a thorough refurbis-
hment by SARC Architects, Mint & More developed an interior design concept for the city
villa that not only considers the ecological values of the foundations but also reflects the
character of the historical building fabric. Piece by piece, the team tracked down and
refurbished each individual piece of second-hand furniture. What could not be purchased
was made from sustainable wood with the help of local carpenters. This attention to
detail is evident in the interiors! Both the public areas on the ground floor with library
and restaurant and the working, co-working and research areas shine in new, old splen-
dour. Without awe, but with respect, Mint & More have transferred the city villa into the
present and continued its history. A modern piece of contemporary history.
