VENTION OFFICE
IN MONTREAL
There is magic in every beginning. Light and free, the
still very young Ivy Studio conjures up spatial business
cards finely tuned to the respective clients’ DNA. The
design for Vention is precisely tailored to this company
and cannot be applied to any other. Material, structure
and colours originate from the company’s history and
specific internal processes.
T he four founders of the Montreal-based Ivy Studio, a woman and
three men, who are on friendly terms, fascinate with their youth-
ful passion for approaching things with an open mind and not shying
away from the extra work involved in intensively dealing with the per-
sonality of a company. The new fixtures and furniture shine in a deep
“Vention blue” against the background of the existing building, which
is bathed in white. Three of the studio’s five years since its foundation
was founded have been marked by the pandemic. Many things have

vate, what is public, what is leisure, what is work, has become blur-
red. Vention, another Montreal-based company, specialises in the de-
velopment of automation systems. A manufacturer-specific system for
the respective industrial production is assembled from a manifold
construction kit, which is equipped, among other things, with a whole
range of different extruded aluminium profiles. It is precisely this aes-
thetic of perforated profiles that became the key components in the
transformation of the 1,300 square metre warehouse. Nevertheless,
the new office spaces look like a very private and at the same time
cosmopolitan elegant living room. The architects’ decision to use ma-
terials from the company’s own catalogue and to assemble the cus-
tom-made furniture and fittings from these is both simple and inge-
nious. The rooms thus gain an intense aura. Material, form and colour
interact with the people who spend time in them to generate an over-
all experience that cannot be copied. In this way, this working envi-
ronment becomes a three-dimensional business card that shows
many changeable views, but still remains unique. The office and
lounge zones virtually merge with the exhibits. And presumably, this
very special spirit is conveyed to customers and users alike — the in-
teriors create a high identification potential. Above all, it is also a
business card that makes a deep impression in the international com-
