ADVERTISING AGENCY

IN BARCELONA

Isern Serra designed the new company headquarters of
the Fuego Camina Conmigo advertising agency in Gràcia,
Barcelona’s pulsating artist- and student district. In the
light-flooded, bright rooms, industrial charm overlaps
with creative office culture. Events and presentations can
take place here. In addition, the agency serves as a show-
room of the Sancal manufacturer of designer furniture.

I ndustrial style! It is precisely in this old-building setting that the in-
ternational creative scene feels at ease. This is because in it radia-
tes the charm of the past, of the unperfect, the joy of experimenting,
the pleasure taken in the informal, in most cases an enormous flexi-
bility and the chance of giving it a new life. This is also optimally re-
flected in the headquarters of the Fuego Camina Conmigo advertising
agency that Isern Serra recently designed in Barcelona. The agency is
located on the third upper floor of a building which had already been
used as an office before. The rectangular level, generously illuminated
on three sides, offered enormous design scope. The open layout is
owed to the historic support construction: slender centre supports
spanned by no less filigree metal carriers. The room programme is
tripartite: Isern Serra positioned the meeting- and service zones in the
entrance area. Next to these, the so-called agora opens – an event-
and presentation area with comfortably furnished seating islands and
carpets in subtle colours. There are also circle-segment shaped sea-
ting steps of metal inspired by amphitheatres. The “public square” for
improvised meetings seamlessly merges into the “actual” work area.
The latter consists of four tables with eleven workstations each speci-
fically constructed for the agency. Apart from these, the rooms of the
agency have been equipped with furniture by the Barcelonese Sancal
brand of designer furniture. At the request of the client, this new wor-
king world is to look open and dynamic without resorting to stereoty-
pical glass partitions as a sign of transparency. Instead, Isern Serra de-
signed for the meeting- and service zones white modules of different
heights with circle-segment-shaped glass openings as rooms-in-the-
room. Due to their sculptural appearance, these installations combine
into a large, distinct sculpture in the room. An intended side effect of
the artistic intervention is that daylight is able to circulate freely. For
undisturbed phone conversations, there are also small cubicles which
can be immersed in various light moods. These are inspired by the art
