O b es für die viel beschworene Work-Life-Balance wirklich von Vorteil ist, Woh nen
und Arbeiten in einem einzigen, 60 Quadratmeter großen Raum zu verbin den, darf
man gern infrage stellen. Fest steht allerdings, dass bei dieser extremen Form des Home
Office, in der Bett und Büro nur wenige Schritte voneinander entfernt liegen, sich der
Arbeitsweg massiv verkürzt. Theoretisch könnte das natürlich zu einer enormen Stei -
gerung der persönlichen Quality Time führen. Theoretisch! Im vor liegenden Fall wird das
Casa-Studio jedoch von zwei Architekten bewohnt und es bleibt zu befürchten, dass die
kurzen Wege und die dauernde Verfügbarkeit eher dazu führen, dass sich die Balance
stark in Richtung Work verschiebt. Für ein rich tiges Life wiederum ist der le dig lich durch
leichte weiße Vorhänge strukturierte Raum wohl auch nicht geeignet – schon gar nicht,
wenn man dem Begriff Life ein Family vor anstellt. Aber noch lebt das junge Architek -
tenpaar allein und wie die meisten haben Fabio Mancini und Sil via Kliti während ihres
Studiums durch aus gelernt, sich zu beschränken. Für immer wird es wohl nicht so blei -
ben! So lange aller dings leben und arbeiten sie gern in ihrem schma len Refu gium – auch
weil es ein echtes Experi ment ist: Während aktuell viel über eine „Neue Ein fachheit“,
Do It Yourself und das „Leben auf kleinem Raum“ philosophiert wird, probieren es
Mancini und Kliti tatsächlich einmal aus: das Wohnen jenseits des Gewohnten.

W hether it is really advantageous for the much-invoked “work-life balance” to
combine living and working in a single room with a floor area of only 60
square metres is actually open for discussion. It is, however, certain that this extreme
form of “home office”, where bed and office are only a few steps apart, massively
reduces the time required for commuting. Theoretically, this could lead to an enor-
mous increase of one’s personal “quality time”. Theoretically, though! In the case pre-
sented here, the “Casa Studio” is occupied by two young architects. Consequently, it
may be feared that the short distances between life and work and one’s permanent
availability could cause a shift in the direction of work. On the other hand, the room,
which is only structured by delicate white curtains, is probably not exactly suited to
live a real “life” – and much less if one puts “family” in front of the term “life”. At the
moment, the two young architects still live on their own, and like the majority, Fabio
Mancini and Silvia Kliti learned to restrict themselves during their studies. It won’t
stay like this forever! For the moment, they love to live and work in their narrow
refuge – also because it is a real experiment for them: while “new simplicity”, “Do-it-
yourself” and “living in the smallest space” are much philosophised, Mancini and
Kliti actually give it a try: living beyond the customary.
