M ailand oder Madrid – Hauptsache Italien ...“, könnte man angesichts der Neu-
gestaltung dieses Mailänder Stadtapartments durch ein Madrider Designteam
augenzwinkernd zitieren. Mit offensiven Materialkombinationen und mutigen Farb-
kontrasten brachte das spanische Studio Puntofilipino rund um Gema Gutiérrez die
norditalienische Grandezza zurück in eine 85 Quadratmeter große Altbauwohnung am
Naviglio Grande. Gekonnt verbanden die Interior Designerinnen dabei Elemente der
1930er- und 1980er-Jahre – wichtige Stilepochen der Moderne in Mailand, in denen die
Stadt allmählich zum Designzentrum mit einflussreicher Szene wurde und, ein halbes
Jahrhundert später, diesen Status mit der bahnbrechenden Postmoderne des Ettore
Sottsass erneut manifestierte. In Anlehnung an Art Deco und Memphis bestimmen also
geheimnisvolle Tapisserien und archaische Möbel auf flächig verlegtem Vinylboden in
Terrazzo-Optik den Raumeindruck im großen Salon. Der öffnet sich über weite, mit
blauem Marmor ausgekleidete Rundbögen zum Schlaf- und Badezimmer sowie zur
Küche, wo der blaue Stein als Wandverkleidung durch einen Fries aus terrakottafarbe-
nen Relieffliesen und rostrote Kacheln effektvoll inszeniert ist. Mailand oder Madrid –
Hauptsache Italien führt uns hier wieder einmal vor Augen, wie zeitlos elegant expres-
sive Farben und Muster im privaten Wohnraum eingesetzt werden können. Bravissimo!

M ilan or Madrid – the main thing is Italy”, one might quote with a wink when loo-
king at the new design of this Milanese city flat by a Madrid team of designers.
With offensive combinations of materials and bold colour contrasts, the Spanish Punto-
filipino studio around Gema Gutiérrez brought the north-Italian grandezza back into an
85-square-metre flat in an old building at the Naviglio Grande canal. The interior desi-
gners skilfully combined elements of the 1930s and the 1980s – important style epochs
of the modern age in Milan during which the city gradually became the design centre
with an influential scene and, half a century later, once again manifested this rank with
the ground-breaking post-modern movement of Ettore Sottsass. Inspired by Art Deco
and the Memphis group, mysterious tapestries and archaic furniture on extensively in-
stalled vinyl flooring in a terrazzo look thus determine the room appearance in the large
parlour. Through wide archways covered with blue marble, the latter opens to the bed-
and the bathroom as well as to the kitchen where the blue stone is effectively staged as
wall panelling with a terracotta-coloured relief frieze and rust-red tiles. Milan or Madrid,
the main thing is that Italy once again shows us quite plainly how timelessly elegant ex-
pressive colours and patterns can be used in a private home. Bravissimo!
