Kompakt und filigran: Doppelwaschtisch in nur 100 Zentimeter Breite

S aphirKeramik – 2013 lancierte der Schweizer Bad-Spezialist Laufen
seine revolutionäre Materialinnovation. Fortan war es möglich,
Sanitärkeramik mit zwei bis drei Millimeter engen Radien und drei bis
viel Milli meter schmalen Kanten zu produzieren. Filigran ist dieses
Material und dennoch robust! Ein Vergleich zeigt den Quantensprung:
Gegenüber der linear-reduzierten Designsprache der SaphirKeramik
mutet traditionelle Sanitärkeramik förmlich barock an. Die Verschlan -
kung geht außerdem mit einem deutlich geringeren Gewicht, Material-
und Platzverbrauch einher. Ludovica und Roberto Palomba, Konstantin
Grcic und Toan Nguyen loteten für Laufen das Potenzial der Saphir -
Keramik aus. Und auch Patricia Urquiola, die sicher profilierteste
Allrounderin des zeitgenössischen Designs, demonstrierte zuletzt mit
Sonar, dass die Erfolge der Laufen-Materialforschung ganz neue Perspek -
tiven in der Bad gestaltung eröffnen. Zur Kollektion gehört ein kompakter
Doppel waschtisch, der passend zur fortschreitenden Verstädterung für
kleine urbane Bäder prädestiniert ist. Nur einen Meter breit, hat dieser
ähnliche Dimensionen wie ein großer Einzel waschtisch. Auf kleinster
Grund fläche findet auch der bodenstehende, vollkeramische, nur 38
Zenti meter breite Waschtisch mit der kollektionstypischen D-Form Platz.
Der Standfuß kaschiert sämtliche Anschlüsse. Außer in glatter
Oberfläche gibt es Sonar mit einer Textur, die Urquiola von Schallwellen
im Wasser ableitete. Daher auch der Name Sonar. wa

S aphirKeramik – in 2013, the Swiss bathroom specialist Laufen laun-
ched this material as a revolutionary innovation. Now it is possible
to produce sanitary ceramics with radii as narrow as 2 to 3 millimetres
and edges of 3 to 4 millimetres. This material is filigree yet robust! A
comparison shows the quantum leap: Compared with the design
language of SaphirKeramik, traditional sanitary ceramics looks down-
right baroque. The streamlining possible with SephirKeramik also
means products that are lightweight and need less material and space.
Ludovica and Roberto Palomba, Konstantin Grcic and Toan Nguyen
explored the potential of SaphirKeramik for Laufen. And Patricia
Urquiola as well, the no doubt most prominent all-rounder of contem-
porary design, showed with Sonar that the success of the Laufen mate-
rials research opens up completely new perspectives in bath design.
Also part of the collection is a compact double washstand ideal for
small, urban bathrooms. With a width of just one metre, it has similar
dimensions to a large single washbasin. The smallest footprint is still
sufficient for the freestanding, all-ceramic, only 38 centimetres wide
washstand with the D-shape that is typical of the collection. The stand
conceals all the connections. Apart from with a smooth surface, Sonar
is also available with a texture that Urquiola derived from the sound
waves in water. This also explains why the washbasin is called Sonar.
