P izzicàrola – so hießen im frühen Rom Verkäufer von Pizza und Käse! Frei übersetzt,
so viel wie: Dinge, die den Gaumen kitzeln. Eine wunderbare Umschreibung für den
kulinarischen Genuss und den italienischen Sinn für Köstlichkeiten. Inspiriert von dieser
traditionellen Figur, bereichert im römischen Stadtteil Monteverde nun das Feinkostge-
schäft Pizzicàrola mit regionalen Produkten seine Nachbarschaft. Die jungen Architekten
Benjamin Gallegos Gabilondo und Marco Provinciali von Supervoid übernahmen die In-
nenraumgestaltung des Lokals, das tagsüber Lebensmittel verkauft und am Abend Gäste
verköstigt. Die soziale Interaktion zwischen Kundschaft, Produkt und Nachbarschaft soll
mit diesem Konzept gestärkt werden. Dazu gehört auch, dass sich das Lokal nicht im In-
nenraum versteckt, sondern bis in den Außenraum wirkt. Die Metallgitter, das Material
der Wahl für die Gestaltung, werden bis an die Fassade hinaus gezogen und leiten die
Kundschaft hinein. Die Gitterstruktur formt nahezu den vollständigen Raum: An der
Wand wird sie zur Basis für Regale, an der Decke übernimmt sie die Funktion der Be-
leuchtung, und auch die Theke wird vollständig in das Material gehüllt. Das Zentrum bil-
det eine lange Tafel – am Tag für den Verkauf von Lebensmitteln, abends als Mittelpunkt
geselliger Runden. „Pizzicàrola ist geboren aus der Liebe und Hingabe zur Kulinarik“, so
die Betreiber, und daran dürfen die BewohnerInnen von Monteverde teilhaben!

I n early Rome, pizzicarola were people who sold pizza and cheese! Loosely transla-
ted, this more or less means “things that tickle the palate”. A wonderful euphemism
for culinary pleasure and the Italian sense of delicacies. Inspired by this traditional fi-
gure, the delicatessen Pizzicarola in Rome’s Monteverde district now enriches its
neighbourhood with regional culinary products. The young architects Benjamin Galle-
gos Gabilondo and Marco Provinciali from Supervoid designed the interiors of the shop
and restaurant, which sells food during the day and treats its guests in the evening. The
social interaction between customers, product and neighbourhood is to be strengthe-
ned with this concept. This also includes the fact that the restaurant does not hide in-
side, but rather has an effect on the outside. The metal grids, the material chosen for
the design, are pulled right out to the façade and guide the customers inside. The lattice
structure practically defines the entire space: on the wall it becomes the basis for shel-
ves, on the ceiling it takes over the function of lighting and the counter is also comple-
tely enveloped in the material. A long table forms the centre – during the day for selling
food, in the evening as a place to sit and socialise. „Pizzicarola was born out of the love
and devotion to culinary arts“, and it lets the residents of Monteverde partake in it!
