F rédéric Malle’s Düfte sind Haute Couture für die Nase. Jeder Duft eröffnet eine
neue Welt. Manches erschließt sich nicht sofort, anderes bleibt für immer fremd.
Doch alles hat Charakter. Wer den Wunsch hat, sich seinen ganz eigenen, persönlichen
Duft entwerfen zu lassen, den niemand sonst auf der Welt hat, wird hier gut beraten.
Solche Duft-Preziosen brauchen natürlich eine adäquate Bühne – und deswegen sind
auch Frédéric Malles Boutiquen keine gewöhnlichen Parfümerien, sondern eine Art
olfaktorische Laboratorien, in denen die Flakons in beleuchteten Kühlschränken ruhen
und Proben in großen Glaszylindern versprüht werden. Von diesem kühltechnischen
Konzept wendet sich Frédéric Malle allerdings mit seiner jüngsten Boutique im hippen
Pariser Marais-Viertel ab. Verantwortlich für das betörende Interieur aus Holz und
Spiegeln sind die Architekten Dominique Jakob und Brendan MacFarlane. Das
Architektenduo hat auch die sich scheinbar organisch im Raum bewegenden Regale
des Buchhandels von Florence Loewy in Paris gestaltet – eine Idee, die jetzt in der
neuen Marais-Boutique von Frédéric Malle ihre Fortsetzung findet. Der Laden ist exakt
symmetrisch aufgebaut. Die sich aus dem Boden aufbauenden, aus der Wand hervor-
kriechenden oder sich von der Decke herabbewegenden Raum strukturen werden
zudem in Spiegelflächen reflektiert, was den Eindruck der Einbauten potenziert.

F rédéric Malle’s perfumes are haute couture for the nose. Each fragrance opens up
a new world. Some nuances are not immediately recognizable, others remain
strange forever. But everything has its own character. Those who wish to create their
very own, personal perfume which nobody else in the world has, gets well-advised
here. Of course, such precious scents need a suitable stage – and this is why Frédéric
Malle’s boutiques are not ordinary perfumeries but a kind of olfactory laboratories
where the flacons rest in illuminated coolers and samples are sprayed from large glass
cylinders. With the latest boutique in the hip Paris Marais district, however, deviates
from this cool-technical concept. Responsible for the enchanting interior of wood and
mirrors are the architects Dominique Jakob and Brendan MacFarlane. The duo of archi-
tects also designed the organic shelves moving in space found in Florence Loewy’s
bookstore – an idea which is now continued in the new Marais boutique of Frédéric
Malle. The store is design to be exactly symmetrical. The moving spatial structures – ris-
ing from the floor or projecting from the wall or descending from the ceiling – are fur-
thermore reflected in mirrored surfaces, increasing the effect of installations. Frédéric
