W eiß muss sie sein, eine hochsterile, hygienische und saubere Zahnarztpraxis!
Aber warum eigentlich? Natürlich steht Weiß für Reinheit und Sauberkeit, und
die Berufskleidung in dieser Farbe kann bei hohen Temperaturen steril gereinigt wer-
den. Für die räumliche Umgebung gilt jedoch keine Farbvorschrift. Warum also nicht
mal das Uniformelle gegen etwas anderes eintauschen? Und wenn schon was Anderes,
dann doch bitte so richtig! Mit Konventionen und Erwartungen zu brechen, kann ein
Risiko darstellen, oder aber es entsteht etwas aufregendes Neues. Das zeigt die von
Fran Silvestre Architekten gestaltete Zahnarztpraxis in der Altstadt von Valencia, die
mit einer andersartigen Farbgestaltung alle Erwartungen auf den Kopf stellt. Mono-
chromes Schwarz zieht sich durch die gesamte Praxis. Eingesetzt wurde ein eigens von
den Architekten entwickelter Bodenbelag, auf dessen Farbnuance alle weiteren Ele-
mente wie Wände, Decken und Möblierung abgestimmt wurden. Statt die unliebsa-
men und oft brachial wirkenden Zahnpflegegeräte so dezent wie möglich erscheinen
zu lassen, wird hier bewusst das Gegenteil zelebriert: In Szene setzen, was sich nicht
verstecken lässt! Und wundersamerweise wirken die kontrastreichen weißen Geräte
in diesem dunklen Mantel viel weniger bedrohlich. Für Patienten ist nun auf den ersten
Blick klar sichtbar, was zur Zahnbehandlung eingesetzt wird. Nichts wird versteckt!

A very sterile, hygienic and clean dental practice has to be white! But why? Of
course, white stands for purity and cleanliness, and workwear in this colour can
be cleaned at high temperatures so that it is sterile. However, there are no colour re-
gulations for the spatial environment. So why not exchange the uniform for something
else? And if something different is ventured, then please do so properly! Breaking with
conventions and expectations can be a risk but also an opportunity to create some-
thing new and exciting. This is demonstrated by the dental practice in the old town
of Valencia designed by Fran Silvestre Arquitectos, which turns all expectations on a
surgery upside down with a different colour scheme. Monochrome black prevails
throughout the practice. A floor covering specially developed by the architects is used,
and all other elements such as walls, ceilings and furniture are matched to its colour
shade. Instead of making the unpleasant and often brute-looking dental care appli-
ances appear as unobtrusive as possible, the opposite is the case: deliberately setting
the scene for what cannot be hidden! Wondrously, the contrasting white appliances
in this dark setting appear much less threatening. Patients can now clearly under-
stand at first glance what is used for dental treatment. Nothing is concealed!
