P ilsach ist eine be schau liche, im Großen und Ganzen aber recht durchschnittliche
Ober pfälzer Ge mein de. Es gibt ein Schloss, eine Kirche und ein Wind kraft werk. Und
damit ist die bei Wikipedia verzeichnete Liste der Sehens wür dig keiten auch schon ab ge -
hakt. Dass sich der Besuch trotzdem lohnt, liegt vor allem an der Kü che des Land gast hofes
Meier im etwas außerhalb gelegenen Weiler Hilzhofen. In dritter Ge ne ration führen hier
Claudia und Michael Meier das – wie man so schön sagt – beste Haus am Platz. Vom Gault-
Millau gab es 2014 eine Haube. Seitdem ist das Haus auch über regional bekannt – und
nachgefragt, weshalb nun eine Erwei te rung der Gasträume erforderlich wurde. Und was
hät te für die Meiers näher ge legen, als mit dem Ausbau das Architektur- und Innenarchi -
tek turbüro von Gud run und Johannes Ber schnei der zu beauftragen? Die leben und arbei -
ten ebenfalls in Pil sach und können durch aus auch auf eine überregionale Bekanntheit
verweisen. Und so ver binden sich heute bei den Meiers die kulinarischen und die archi -
tek toni schen Spitzenleistungen der Region. 2014 ent stand zunächst der neue Kü chen trakt
mit Seminar- und Veranstaltungs räumen und dem vielleicht schönsten Platz des Hauses –
einer kleinen Nische mit Eckbank und Ausblick sowohl in die offene Küche als auch in die
umgebende Landschaft. Im vergangenen Jahr folgte wiederum der Umbau der alten Küche
zu einer modernen Holzstube mit Kamin, die nun den ursprünglichen Gastraum ergänzt.

P ilsach is a placid but on the whole rather average municipality in Upper Palatinate.
There is a castle, a church and a wind power station – and thus the list of sights
mentioned in the Wikipedia article is already ticked off. The fact that a visit is worth-
while nonetheless is primarily down to the delicious food served at Landgasthof Meier,
which is located just outside the town in the hamlet of Hilzhofen. Claudia and Michael
Meier are the third generation to manage the – as the saying goes – “best local house”.
The Gault-Millau awarded the country inn a toque in 2014. Ever since, the hotel is also
renowned beyond the region. As a result of the great demand, an extension of the gue-
strooms became necessary. So what could have been more obvious for the Meier cou-
ple than commissioning the architecture and interior design office of Gudrun and
Johannes Berschneider with the extension? The architects, who also live and work in
Pilsach, and can point to their supra-regional renown, too. Today, Landgasthof Meier
combines culinary and architectural top achievements of the region. In a first phase, a
new kitchen wing with seminar and event rooms and maybe the most beautiful spot of
the hotel – a small niche with a corner bench affording a view to both the open-plan
kitchen and the surrounding landscape – was implemented in 2014. Last year, the old
kitchen was converted into a modern wood-clad parlour with a fireplace.
