Compositions of fragments surprise perception

Within a design process free from ordinary, contextual and given influences, it is impres-
sive for us to see how much range and scope for perception and interpretation is created.
At the beginning of the architectural creation process there was the design, in which the
- in our case - architects consciously entered the state of the player. This created the pos-
sibility that the design is to be seen as an act of composing fragments and of producing
and becoming space. In this way our interpretation of overload arose. It was consciously
used to create a new kind of perception of space and new spaces per se. The overload
was and is the starting point and effect of these new spaces. Spaces no longer allow as-
sociation with the familiar and are therefore overwhelming. The strangeness itself is
overwhelming. New, previously unimagined spaces emerge in such a process. It should
be noted that this space could only be created because it was formed in a kind of "ran-
dom space". The result is overwhelming precisely because it is coincidental - it is not
contingent. A space is thus inevitably formed that cannot be imagined in advance and
thus triggers and intensifies the moment of overload. It is precisely this strangeness that
leads to other spaces and also to new spaces in general. It is important to note that only
by omitting the individual in the design process itself, and thus by designing free of as-
sociations, can other spaces be created. The design of such spaces does not need less,
but more alienation. Exactly this alienation is achieved with the overload in our work. Das Modell zeigt: Licht beeinflusst die Wahrnehmung. • The model shows: light influences perception.
