ture. As part of World Design Capital Valencia 2022, the World Design Exchange will
take place here, a meeting of the organisers of design weeks and other design events
taking place all over the world.
r 12:00 – In a former monastery in the old quarter of El Carmen, the Centre del Carme
Cultura Contemporánea (CCCC) (17) hosts international contemporary art exhibitions.
On the squares, cafés and restaurants invite you to take a rest under the trees.
r 14:00 – The third museum on our list, Institut Valencià d’Art Modern IVAM (18), is
the city’s most important museum of modern art, presenting the development of art
and photography in the 20th century and also temporary exhibitions.
r 15:00 – We now take a walk through the Turia Garden (19). The area where the Turia
River once flowed through the city and often caused flooding is now Valencia’s green
lung: a nine-kilometre-long park with sports fields and playgrounds, walking and cy-
cling paths, sunbathing areas and benches. The green strip extends to the Ciutat de les
Arts i les Ciències (20): the City of Arts and Sciences, designed by star architect (and
son of the city) Santiago Calatrava and completed about two decades ago, has long
since become Valencia’s landmark. The futuristic-looking ensemble of gigantic, dazzling
white buildings includes the Science Museum, the shape of which is reminiscent of the
skeleton of a dinosaur, the Planetarium and the Opera House.
r 18:00 – From here it is not far to the marina (21). In 2007, the America’s Cup took place
in Valencia – for the first time in Europe in over 150 years. The Veles e Vents building
(22), designed by David Chipperfield Architects, was the focal point of the America’s
              Cup competitions. Now it hosts important World Design Capital 2022 events – and in- I N N O VAT I V E B E S C H L A G L Ö S U N G E N A U S B L A U S T E I N .
