1 Vom niederösterreichischen Krems verläuft beidseits der Donau ein bis zu 40 Meter
hoher, lang gestreckter Höhenzug: der Wagram. Für den Weinbau bietet er mit seinen
fruchtbaren Lössböden und einem günstigen Klima die besten Voraussetzungen. Einer
der ältesten Weinbauorte der Region ist Feuers brunn am Wagram. Dort eröffnete das
Weingut Franz Anton Mayer aus dem nahen Königsbrunn jüngst einen Weinkeller, in
dem seine edlen Tropfen zum Verkauf und zur Degustation angeboten werden. Für die
Neugestaltung des Bestandsgebäudes zeichnet das Design büro March Gut aus Linz ver-
antwortlich, das knapp zwei Jahre zuvor in der Feuersbrunner Kellergasse bereits die
Räume für die Wein manu faktur Strobl konzipiert hatte (siehe AIT 9.2014). Wie bei jenem
Projekt überrascht auch diesmal die Rück seite des Gebäudes, das sich zur Straße hin
eher unscheinbar gibt, und offenbart den Grund für den Namen „Weinblick“: Von einer
Sitz stufen landschaft auf der Gartenseite können die Gäste während der Verkos tung den
Blick in die Weinbaulandschaft schweifen lassen. Diese Stufen form setzt sich im Inneren
in Form von Regalen und als Treppe bis in den Keller fort. Umgeben von naturbelas senen
Lösslehm-Wänden, lagern die Weine dort auf einem beleuchteten Präsenta tions steg in
aufeinandergestapelten Kisten. Im Verkaufsraum unterstreichen Materialien wie Metall,
Beton und Seekiefer den Produktionscharakter eines Weinguts. vc

1 From Krems in Lower Austria, an up to 40 metres high, strung-out range of hills runs
along both banks of the Danube: the Wagram. With its fertile loess soils and a
favourable climate, it offers the best conditions for wine-growing. This is where the Franz
Anton Mayer winery from nearby Königsbrunn recently opened a wine cellar where fine
drops are offered for sale and for tasting. Responsible for the new design of the existing
building was the March Gut design office from Linz which, barely two years earlier, had
already planned the premises for Weinmanufaktur Strobl at Kellergasse in Feuersbrunn
(see AIT 9.2014). As in the case of the earlier project, this time again the back of the build-
ing is surprising, while, towards the street, it is rather unspectacular and only reveals the
reason for the name Weinblick at its back: From seating steps on the side of the garden,
while tasting wines the guest are able to enjoy a view of the wine-growing scenery. The
steps are continued inside in the form of shelves and as stairs down to the cellar.
Surrounded by untreated loess-loam walls, wines are stored there in stacked cases on
an illuminated presentation walkway. In the sales room, materials such as metal, con-
crete and maritime pine emphasize the production nature of a winery. Schlichte und ehrliche Materialien prägen den Innenraum. • Simple materials characterize the interior.
