Oper reloaded in London

Mit dem Ziel, ein neues Publikum für Oper und Ballett zu begeistern, wurde das Royal
Opera House an die heutige Zeit angepasst. Seit 1732 befindet sich das bedeutendste bri-
tische Opernhaus im Londoner Stadtteil Covent Garden, 1858 wurde der heutige und be -
reits dritte Bau an dieser Stelle durch Edward Middleton Barry errichtet, den die Archi -
tek ten von Stanton Williams nun mit viel Respekt vor dem Bestand zu einem offenen
Haus mit Terrasse transformiert haben. Bei laufendem Betrieb wurden unter anderem die
öffentlichen Bereiche inklusive der Zugänge attraktiver gestaltet. Neu ist auch, dass das
Gebäude mit neuem Café, Restaurant und Shop bereits ab 10 Uhr morgens geöffnet ist.

The Royal Opera House has been adapted to the present time to attract a new audience.
Since 1732, the most important British opera house has been in Covent Garden; this is
where the current and already third building was built in 1858 by Edward Middleton
Barry. With much respect for the existing fabric, Stanton Williams architects now trans-
formed it into an open house with a terrace. During active operation, the public areas DIPHY
including the entrances were made more attractive. Also new: the building with a new
café, restaurant and shop already opens at 10 a.m. Ma&De Collection
