Architektonischer Meilenstein für Zürich • Architectural milestone for Zurich

D as neue Polizei- und Justizzentrum Zürich (PJZ) – siehe auch S. 110
– gilt als eines der größten und komplexesten Projekte der Schweiz
und entwickelt sich seit seiner Fertigstellung zu einem architektonischen
Meilenstein. Vom Züricher Architekturbüro Theo Hotz Partner entworfen,
zeichnet sich das Gebäude durch seine beachtliche Größe und vor allem
durch seine Nutzungsvielfalt und die innovativen Bautechnologien aus,
die den vielfältigen Anforderungen gleichermaßen gerecht werden. Das
auf dem Areal des ehemaligen Zürcher Güterbahnhofs errichtete Polizei-
und Justizzentrum vereint verschiedene Institutionen an einem großen
Knotenpunkt: die Kantonspolizei (bisher auf 30 Standorte verteilt), die
Staatsanwaltschaft, das Gefängnis Zürich-West, ein forensisches Institut,
die Polizeischule und das Gericht für Zwangsmaßnahmen. Hilfreich ist die
effiziente Neuordnung: Durch die räumliche Nähe von Ermittlungs- und
Strafverfolgungsbehörden wird die Zusammenarbeit gefördert, sodass die
Verbrechensbekämpfung verbessert werden kann. Nach rund viereinhalb
Jahren Bauzeit überragt der Komplex nun die Stadt mit einer Fläche von
34.000 Quadratmetern auf sechs Etagen und bietet rund 2030 Arbeitsplät-
ze und 241 Haftplätze. Inmitten der Büros und Besprechungsräume kom-

by the Zurich architectural firm Theo Hotz Partner, the building is cha-
racterized by its considerable size and by its diversity of use and inno-
vative construction technologies that meet the diverse requirements.
Built on the site of the former Zurich freight station, the police- and
justice centre combines various institutions at one large hub: the canto-
nal police (previously spread over 30 locations), the public prosecutor’s
office, Zurich West Prison, a forensic institute, the police school and
the coercive measures court. The efficient reorganization is helpful: the
spatial proximity of investigative and prosecution authorities promotes
cooperation so that the fight against crime can be improved. After about
four and a half years of construction, the complex now towers over the
city with an area of 34,000 square metres on six floors and offers about
2,030 workplaces and 241 spaces of detention. Amidst the offices and
meeting rooms, more than 50 tables from Mara’s Argo Libro collection
are used – large, space-saving tables that can be folded down to just 40
