A ntwerpens Hafen ist Belgiens wichtigster Wirtschaftsmotor und
nach Rotterdam Europas zweitgrößter Hafen. Im vergangenen Jahr
wurde dort die Rekordsumme von über 235 Millionen Tonnen umge-
schlagen. Gemanagt wird Antwerpens Hafen von der staatlichen
Hafenbehörde. Diese residiert in einem imposanten, weithin sichtbaren
Gebäude – eigentlich sind es zwei. Den unteren Baukörper bildet der im
Stil der Neo-Renaissance 1922 von Emiel Van Averbeke erbaute, boden-
ständige Backsteinbau der einstigen Hafenfeuerwehrzentrale. Darüber
sitzt der gläserne, an einen Schiffsrumpf, aber auch an einen Diamanten
erinnernde Wolkenbügel von Zaha Hadid Architects. Beide Assoziatio-
nen sind eng mit Antwerpen verknüpft. Die Bedeutung des Hafens, seine
lange Geschichte und seine Zukunftsvisionen sollen dieses Ensemble
widerspiegeln. Die dreieckigen, teils transparenten, teils opaken, wie
Wasser schimmernden Glaselemente der Fassade versorgen die offenen
Bürolandschaften des „Überfliegers“ mit viel Tageslicht. Im Innenhof des
Altbaus, in dessen Foyer, Lesesaal und Konferenzräumen greifen expres-
siv geformte Möbel die Architektursprache des Wolkenbügels auf.
Gefertigt sind diese aus dem Mineralwerkstoff Kerrock von Kolpa in den
Farben Black, Snow White und Water Stone. Frei formbar, nahtlos,
homogen und reinigungsfreundlich bietet dieses Material viel Gestal-

of daylight. In the inner courtyard of the old building, in its foyer, rea-

up the architectural language of Hadid’s glazed cloud hanger. The fur-
niture is made of the mineral material Kerrock by Kolpa in black,
snow white and water stone. Freely mouldable, jointless, homogene-
ous and easy to clean, it allows plenty of design scope and the highest
