PRACTICE ZAHNLIGA
IN SELIGENSTADT
„Die Farb- und Themenvielfalt fördert eine The battle against cavities and gum disease already begins
in childhood. Good care and regular visits to the dentist
entspannte und gleichzeitig anregende are therefore quite important to keep teeth healthy and
Atmosphäre für die PatientInnen.“ strong all the way into adulthood. To help the youngest
patients meet this challenge head-on, 12:43 Architekten
12:43 Architekten designed a dental practice in Seligenstadt where children
play in the premier league of dental care.
O n your marks, get set, go! In order to playfully teach children
and adolescents the importance of dental health, prophylaxis
and oral hygiene are taught with a great deal of sporting spirit in the
practice Zahnliga: floor graphics not only resemble a gymnasium, but
also serve as an orientation aid. Gymnastics rings are hanging in the
cloakroom. The waiting area for children is equipped with platforms
that represent an abstract winners’ podium and also serve as a play
zone, while teenagers will find a linear bench with numbering that
resembles a players’ bench. And the platform at the reception desk
is also similar to a starting block, inviting you to jump into the “cold
water” of treatment, as it were. This makes it quickly clear: this is
a sporty place! The central architectural element in the 350-square-
metre area is a rounded central block that houses the staircase and
the practice entrance and is accessed from all sides. Its blue-glazed
Lignotrend cladding ensures pleasant room acoustics, and the curves
create a flowing spatial effect that is intended to contribute to the
well-being of young patients. Six treatment rooms and one procedure
room are arranged in a choreographed sequence around it. Special
areas such as the reception, the waiting areas for children and ado-
lescents, and the room for oral hygiene are located in recesses that
stand out thanks to the different colours of the floor coverings, thus
clearly separating the respective functional areas from one another.
Hidden discreetly behind a yellow wall unit and a yellow portal at
the back of the practice are the staff facilities, with office and storage
rooms, as well as a generously sized kitchen with a dining area. In
the form of wall graphics, Inga – drawn by Diane Nagel – accompanies
children and young people through the entire practice as a friendly
mascot: she welcomes them in the waiting area, framed by sports-
loving animals, and decorates the walls and doors of the treatment
rooms. This helps to introduce even the youngest children to the topic
in a light-hearted way – because keeping fit not only helps you stay
