S ich beim Zahnarzt geborgen fühlen? Das ist wohl nicht die erste Emotion, die ein
Besuch in der Dentalpraxis hervorruft. Dies mit dem „White Cocoon“ zu ändern,
war das Anliegen von Innenarchitekt Adrian Bleschke und Bauherrin Jasmin Urich. Wie
bereits der Name andeutet, wird den PatientInnen ein angstbefreiter Rahmen in behüte-
ter Atmosphäre geboten – diese entsteht Dank organischer Formensprache und zartwar-
mem Farb- und Lichtkonzept. Was heute unbeschwert wirkt, war ein nicht ganz einfaches
Unterfangen: Da sich die Praxis in einem klassischen Berliner Altbau aus dem Jahr 1908
befindet und über die Jahrzehnte einer Vielzahl baulicher Veränderungen sowie Umnut-
zungen unterzogen wurde, musste die Einheit für die Praxisräume bis auf die Grundmau-
ern entkernt werden. Umfangreiche statische Eingriffe führten zu einer Raumaufteilung,
die über einen langen, schmalen Flur effizient erschlossen wird. Die elegant abgerunde-
ten Wandecken innerhalb der Behandlungsräume lockern diese auf und bilden jeweils
eine kokonähnliche, umschmeichelnde Raumhülle. Im Rahmen der Umbaumaßnahmen
wurde der Fokus außerdem auf Nachhaltigkeit gesetzt: So besteht der Gussboden aus
natürlich gewonnenen Biopolymeren, und beim Raumklima wurde auf ein modernes,
durch eine Wärmepumpe betriebenes Heiz- und Kühldeckensystem gesetzt – und kein
Radiator stört die minimalistisch, elegante, beruhigende Ästhetik der Praxis.

F eeling secure at the dentist? That‘s probably not the first emotion a visit to the
dental practice evokes. Interior designer Adrian Bleschke and his client Jasmin
Ulrich wanted to change this with the White Cocoon. As the name suggests, patients
are offered a fear-free environment with a sheltered atmosphere — this is achieved
through an organic design vocabulary and the gentle warmth of the colour and ligh-
ting concept. What seems carefree today was not an entirely straightforward endea-
vour: Since the practice is located in a classic Berlin building from 1908 and has
undergone numerous structural changes and conversions over the decades, the unit
for the practice rooms had to be gutted down to the bare walls. Extensive structural
modifications resulted in a room layout that is efficiently accessed via a long, narrow
corridor. The elegantly rounded corners of the walls in the treatment rooms soften the
layout, and each room forms a cocoon-like, enveloping enclosure. Sustainability was
also a focus of the renovation project: for example, the cast floor is made of naturally
sourced biopolymers, and a modern heating and cooling ceiling system powered by a
heat pump was installed to ensure a pleasant room climate – no radiators disrupt the
minimalist, elegant, calming aesthetics of the denrtal practice.
