SKIN- AND LASER CENTRE
IN EICHSTÄTT
To day beauty is no longer considered to be a gift of God
but the result of consistently working on one’s own body.
As a consequence, not only the demands on the compe-
tence of specialist physicians are growing and on the
technical equipment but also on the treatment rooms
which have to be far more than merely sterile.
A s the saying goes: “At the age of 20, we have the face which nature
gave us; starting at age 40, we have the face shaped by our life”.
Sooner or later, everything we want to express and suppress shows in
the way our faces look. They look flushed when we are angry, deathly
pale when we are afraid; one can notice a lofty brow when we are thin-
king hard or the drooping corners of the mouth when we are discon-
tent – all this goes to prove it. Many Germans are increasingly anxious
about letting others read their faces and are therefore prefer to invest
in medical procedures. In 2016, physicians reported an increase of ten
percent in plastic surgeries and of even 20 percent in “minimally inva-
sive facial interventions” to the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ästhetisch-
Plastische Chirurgie (DGÄPC). Plastic surgery has become a social
standard and the clients – one doesn’t want to call them patients – are
increasingly younger. The skin- and laser centre in the heart of
Eichstätt has adapted to this development and, besides classic derma-
tology focusing on all the acute and chronic skin diseases, also offers
the whole spectrum of aesthetic treatments. Not only the latest treat-
ment methods, innovative devices and the many years of experience of
the specialist physicians are the key to success here but also the rede-
signed premises. The interior architect Julius Reimann was commissio-
ned with converting them. His central approach regarding the design is
the polygonal structure of the skin which is the visual leitmotif in the
skin- and laser centre on 380 square metres. The rooms are characte-
rized by a complex interpretation of the skin in the form of the texture,
structure and colour. The interior architecture concentrates on clear
visual axes and reference points. The design of the various examinati-
on- and treatment rooms responds to the clients’ wish for simple and
functional furnishings. The basis is formed by calming lines. Pastel
colours, mirrored surfaces and elegant shades of grey are in the centre
of the design. The reception- and waiting area, on the other hand, pro-
vided more scope for design. The visitors are welcomed by the striking
sweeping marble counter with its dynamic grain and shape and are
then easily able to mentally prepare themselves for the treatments by
