BOSCH CLUBHOUSE
IN RENNINGEN
Space for creative minds and innovative ideas: In order
to create optimal working conditions for Bosch associa-
tes at the research site in Renningen, Scope Architekten
were commissioned to design the new communicative
centrepiece of the Robert Bosch Campus. The multifuncti-
onal working landscape now offers plenty of space for a
diverse exchange of ideas on current development topics.
S ince 2014, the small town of Renningen west of Stuttgart has suc-
ceeded in becoming quite an international hub for development at
the Bosch technology group. More than 2,000 employees are focussed
on driving the company’s innovative strength here on the Robert Bosch
Campus. In order to support research and development processes and
promote communication and creativity among employees, the idea for a
contemporary community space was born. The so-called Bosch Rng 120
Clubhouse is situated in a central campus location on an area measuring
423 square metres in building Rng 120, where a variety of workshops are
also housed. To turn an office floor formerly also used as a lab into a
stimulating, multifunctional place, the team from Scope Architekten desi-
gned an open creative office landscape with different amenities, ranging
from casual café- and bar spots (Coffee & Connect and DJ area), to office
meeting rooms (Spicy Cube) and classic workstations all the way to quiet
areas even offering power-nap options (Güne Lunge and Cosy Niches).
Structure and orientation in the spatial structure are achieved through
zoning by using different colours and materials. The Grüne Lunge, for
example, is a relaxation area designed in fresh shades of green with cor-
responding green plants, while the informal DJ area, which can also be
used for events, is immersed in attractive shades of gold and beige. The
zones focussing on active work communication – from the coffee kitchen
to the meeting room – are designed to have a stimulating and dynamic
effect on employees by applying various red tones. Curtains, shelving
systems, glass partitions and customized room dividers as well as alcove
furniture serve as privacy screens for secluded conversation situations.
Visibly installed technology and black acoustic baffles also create a clear
contrast to the brightly coloured design also using warm materials such
as wood and velvet and, together with numerous appropriately upgraded
surfaces and built-in furniture, succeed in ensuring acoustic comfort. Last
but not least, wall graphics and illuminated lettering add a playful touch
and complete the Clubhouse as an almost Instagram-ready communicati-
