                                                                                        Glass partition walls are indispensable in modern of-
                                                                                        fice worlds. That, apart from the transparency, a large
                                                                                        design potential can also be found in glass as the ma-
                                                                                        terial, is shown by the architects from Tal Goldsmith
                                                                                        Fish. In an Israeli real-estate office, they cleverly com-
                                                                                        bine all the advantages of glass and thus produce an
                                                                                        impressive play of transparency and translucency.

                                                                                        T  he centre of Tel Aviv is known for its Bauhaus architecture. Built
                                                                                           according to plans by European architects of Jewish descent who,
                                                                                        around 1930 and due to the political situation in Germany, were for-
                                                                                        ced to flee abroad, there are more than 4,000 white-plastered buil-
                Grundriss • Floor plan                                                  dings which characterize the cityscape. Although the climatic conditi-
                                                                                        ons have caused an increasing greying of the striking façades, more
                                                                                        and more of the listed buildings are fortunately being renovated in
                                                                                        order to conserve the cultural heritage. The real-estate office which Tal
                                                                                        Goldsmith Fish designed is located in this centre – likewise in a buil-
                                                                                        ding from the 1930s – and ingeniously succeeds in bringing the uni-

                                                                                        ding’s quality within the historic neighbourhood and to integrate the

                                                                                        a modern way. The result: undoubtedly a break with traditional struc-

                                                                                        tures as clear as glass. More than twelve kilometres of glass strips of
                                                                                        different thicknesses turned into walls and cleverly divide the deep
                                                                                        floor plan into zones. Thanks to the simple – if elaborate in its imple-

                                                                                        pressive kind of translucency. This makes natural lighting possible all
                                                                                        the way to the innermost rooms while the necessary discretion for

                                                                                        floor- and ceiling openings, sunlight as well as the light emitted by ca-
                                                                                        refully placed LED luminaires penetrates the individual panes, is pris-
                                                                                        matically broken and produces radial images with fascinating light re-
                                                                                        flexes which change in the course of the day. The pieces of furniture
                                                                                        and the people are also reflected in the prisms and create attractive
                                                                                        silhouettes. Besides the rough-looking concrete floor, the furniture
                                                                                        mainly made of steel emphasizes the use of rough materials, takes up
                                                                                        the vertical direction and produces a pleasant contrast to the lightness
                                                                                        of the delicate play of light. The lower level extending over half the
                                                                                        base area contains the social spaces. So now there is a truly polished
