V erkehrspsychologen aufgepasst: Kugeln lassen sich doch stapeln! Paf atelier beweist
mit seiner Installation auf der Première Vision, dass diese angebliche Aufgabe im
„Idiotentest“ kreativ gelöst werden könnte. Während der diesjährigen Frühjahrsedition
der weltweit führenden Messe für Stoffe und Leder rückte der Lederbereich besonders in
den Mittelpunkt. Französischen Gerbern wurde ein spezieller „Leather Hub“ gewidmet.
Bereits ohne das Leder hätte das Präsentationskonzept als Exponat gelten können: auf-
blasbare weiße Kugeln, die – teils zwischen gebogenen Holzelementen – durch leuchtend
orangefarbene Gurte in einer stabilen und ästhetischen Formation zusammengehalten
wurden. Ein beeindruckendes visuelles Erlebnis, das die Vielfalt und Flexibilität der ver-
schiedenen Lederarten demonstriert. Die sphärische Form erinnert an Zellmembranen und
diente als Untergrund für die ausgestellte Ware. Beim Umhüllen der Ballons demonstrier-
ten die verschiedenen Lederarten die Variabilität des Materials und seine Fähigkeit, sich
auch an Kugelformen anzupassen. Ähnlichkeiten zu einer früheren Installation von Paf
atelier sind deutlich: Im Design-Pavillon der Universität Montreal hingen 2023 aufblasbare
weiße Zylinder an blauen Seilen von der Decke. Die experimentelle Handschrift des Pariser
Architekturbüros, das Spiel mit dem vermeintlich Unmöglichen, macht gespannt auf seine
nächsten Projekte – in denen es möglicherweise den Pudding an die Wand nagelt ...
T raffic psychologists take note: balls can be stacked after all! With its installation at
Première Vision, Paf atelier proves that this supposed task in the “idiot test”, the
medical-psychological assessment, could be creatively solved. During this year’s spring
edition of the world’s leading trade fair for fabrics and leather, the leather sector took
centre stage. A special “Leather Hub” was dedicated to French tanners. Even without
the leather, the presentation concept could have been considered an exhibit: inflatable
white balls, some of which were held together between bent wooden elements by bright
orange-coloured straps in a stable and aesthetic formation. An visual experience that
demonstrated the variety and flexibility of the different types of leather. The spherical
shape was reminiscent of cell membranes and served as a base for the products on
display. When wrapped around the balloons, the different types of leather demonstrated
the variability of the material and its ability to adapt to spherical shapes. Similarities to
an earlier installation by Paf atelier are evident: in 2023, inflatable white cylinders were
suspended from the ceiling on blue ropes in the Design Pavilion at the University of Mon-
treal. The experimental signature of the Parisian architecture firm makes us look forward
to its next projects – in which it might nail jelly to a wall ...
