W ie eine frische Blumenwiese im Schatten von Bäumen wirkt der Colvin-Store – al-
lerdings mitten in Barcelona. Das bislang nur als Online-Versand agierende Un-
ternehmen liefert Sträuße in Spanien, Italien, Portugal und Deutschland und legt dabei
Wert auf Nachhaltigkeit und Wertschätzung der Natur. Das inspirierte Architekt Roman
Izquierdo Bouldstridge zu einer gebauten Verschmelzung von Natur und Menschenge-
machtem. Im Erdgeschoss eines ehemaligen Bankgebäudes in Barcelona ließ er Zwi-
schendecke und Putz entfernen und schuf zwischen freigelegten Deckenträgern und Zie-
gelwänden eine feingliedrige Waldstruktur. Die enorme Raumhöhe wird durch die Verti-
kalität der Bäu me und die vorhandene Säulenstruktur betont, zusätzlich wird der Raum
durch Spiegel optisch erweitert. Monochrom in Weiß gestaltete Wand-, Decken- und Bo-
denflächen verstärken den Eindruck eines weiten, lichten Feldes. Zylinder aus Holz – in
den Abmessungen so unterschiedlich wie echte Baumstämme – dienen den Sträußen als
Podeste auf Augenhöhe. Sie sind verschiebbar und ideal, um das Ausstellungsbild wech-
selnden Bouquetthemen anzupassen. Als T resen, Tisch und Ummantelung der Baumge-
fäße sind sie Basis des pu ren Konzepts, das sich vom Verkaufsraum über die Floristen-
werkstatt bis in die Kühl- und Lagerräume zieht. Und wären die Glastüren nicht, würde
sich das Blütenmeer – so scheint es – wohl auch auf die Straße ergießen.

T he first Colvin store looks like a field of flowers shaded by trees. The company so
far only active online delivers bouquets in Spain, Italy, Portugal and Germany
and attaches importance to sustainability and the appreciation of nature. This inspi-
red the architect Roman Izquierdo Bouldstridge to a built fusion of what is natural
and what is man-made. On the ground floor of a former bank building in Barcelona,
he had the false ceiling and the plaster removed and designed a filigree forest bet-
ween the exposed ceiling beams and the brick walls – right in the densest inner-city
location. The enormous ceiling height is emphasized by the verticality of the trees and
the existing columns and the space is visually duplicated with mirrors. Wall-, ceiling-
and floor areas designed in white increase the impression of a wide, bright field. Woo-
den cylinders with dimensions as varied as real tree trunks are eye-level pedestals for
the bouquets. They can be moved and are ideal for adapting to the changing themes
of the bouquets. As the counter, table and around the tree containers, they are the
basis of the purist concept which extend from the sales room to the florist workshop
all the way to the cool- and storerooms. Fixed and mobile glass doors ensure visual
and acoustic separations on the floor area continuing all the way to the sidewalk.
