GARDEROBA STORE
IN ZAGREB
Entwurf • Design Biro, HR-Zagreb
von • by Christine Schröder
theatralisch monochromen Gestaltung geschaffen.
Vorhänge in satten
C roatia is talked about everywhere – at the latest since its national team fought all the
way to the finals against France for the FIFA World Cup at the end of July. Even though
the capital city of Zagreb is not situated on the picturesque coast of the small holiday des-
tination in the Balkans, it is definitely worth a visit with its historic old town and charming
street cafés. In the design district, Ana Ivancic recently opened her Garderoba concept
store. “Slow shopping” is the motto here. Away from the mainstream, the customer is first
to slow down over a glass of champagne before discovering the select range. The architect
trio Dora Loncaric, Sasa Kosuta and Mario Kralj provided the suitable setting with a the-
atrical monochrome design. A filigree steel construction below the ceiling and austere grey
on the floor and bright white on the lower third of the walls to go with it set the stage for
three oversized changing rooms. Curtains in deep pastel tones produce the zones
equipped with custom-made furniture and fluffy carpets in the same colour. As needed,
curved curtain rails allow differently sized segments and create ever new spatial relation-
ships. The simple system for presenting the goods is in contrast to the flowing forms and
the soft materials. Suspended from the ceiling construction, it can be flexibly used and
thus allows a view of what is essential, namely the clothes offered for sale.
