Auf nur acht Meter Breite entstand ein Zuhause. • A home on a width of just eight metres

D ie Kombination von Holz und Beton ist nicht ganz neu, aber immer
wieder spannend durch den materialbedingten Gegensatz. In dem
von Architekt Franz-Josef Schildhammer entworfenen Wohnhaus Holzbe-
ton No. 4 ist dies nicht anders. Von außen lockern Volumensubtraktionen
und üppige Verglasungen den zweigeschossigen Wohnkubus angenehm
auf. Ausgestattet mit besonders großformatigen Fenstern und Türen
von Josko öffnet sich der kompakte Baukörper und ermöglicht ein luf-
tiges und transparentes Innenraumgefühl. Dabei war der ausdrückliche
Wunsch der Bauherrin und ihrer Familie, nicht nur ein Haus zu bauen:
Ein behagliches Zuhause als Rückzugsort sollte auf dem 620 Quadrat-
meter großen Hanggrundstück entstehen. Durch die schmalen, elegan-
ten Fensterprofile, die die Produkte der Serie ONE auszeichnen, wird
möglichst viel Tageslicht hineingeleitet, ohne Aufmerksamkeit auf sich
zu ziehen. Statt auf eine Kontrastwirkung der Hauptakteure Beton und
Holz setzt der Entwurf auf die natürlich entstehende Harmonie durch
das Tageslicht und fördert so einen ausgeglichenen Dialog zwischen
den zwei Materialien. Die senkrecht geschalte Brettstruktur des Sichtbe-
tonkerns führt die Maserung der mit Vollholz beplankten Außenwände
fort und rufen – trotz unterschiedlicher Oberflächen – ein gleichmäßiges
Gesamtbild hervor. Natürlich ist dabei nicht nur die Kompatibilität der
Komponenten: Auch die Außenwände und das Dach sind aus Massiv-

This is no different in the Holzbeton No. 4 residential building designed
by architect Franz-Josef Schildhammer. From the outside, volume sub-
tractions and generous glazing pleasantly break up the two-storey liv-
ing cube. Equipped with particularly large windows and doors from
Josko, the compact structure opens up and produces an airy and trans-
parent interior. The express wish of the client and her family was not
just to build a house: they wanted to create a cosy home and retreat
on the 620 square metre hillside property. The narrow, elegant window
profiles that characterize the ONE series allow as much daylight as
possible to enter without attracting attention. Instead of contrasting
the main elements of concrete and wood, the design focuses on the
natural harmony created by daylight, promoting a balanced dialogue
between the two materials. The vertical board structure of the exposed
concrete core continues the grain of the solid-wood cladding on the
exterior walls and, despite the different surfaces, results in a uniform
