F liesen im simplen Format zehn auf zehn Zentimeter galten lange Zeit als innenarchi-
tektonisches No-Go. „Kacheln“ genossen ein schlechtes Image. Denn jahrzehntelang
war die Existenzberechtigung der Keramikquadrate auf rein funktionale Zwecke – auf
wischfreundliche, hygienische Oberflächen – ohne gestalterischen Mehrwert reduziert.
Nach Abebben der XXL-Euphorie in der Feinsteinzeugbranche erlebt die „kleinkarierte“
Keramik eine wahre Renaissance. Dass sich mit den glasierten Scherben Wohnräume ge-
radezu inszenieren lassen, beweisen gambardellarchitetti mit dem „House of luminous
stalactites“. Die nur 52 Quadratmeter große Wohnung liegt im Erdgeschoss eines Gebäu-
des aus dem frühen 20. Jahrhundert im wohlhabenden Stadtteil Vomero, westlich der
Altstadt. Vietri-Fliesen vom Boden bis zur Decke und auf dem Boden prägen die in sich
monochromen Räume. So entstehen kontrastreiche Blickbeziehungen zwischen Esszim-
mer (grün), Wohnzimmer (rubinrot), Küche (orange), Bad (gelb) und Schlafzimmer (la-
vendelfarben). Das Einbaumobiliar – alles Sonderanfertigungen – stimmten der Professor
für Entwerfen Cherubino Gambardella, Simona Ottieri Gambardella und ihr Team farb-
lich auf die Keramik ab. In der kontrastreichen Chromatik gibt es einen gemeinsamen
Nenner in sämtlichen Räumen: stalaktitenförmige, aus Gipskarton gefertigte Leuchten.
Märchenhaft-surreal, gewagt und extrem individuell mutet dieses Apartment an!

F or a long time, tiles in the simple standardized format 10 by 10 centimetres had been
considered a no-go in interior design. They had a bad image. This is because, for
decades, the ceramic squares’ right to exist had been reduced to purely functional pur-
poses – producing easy-care, hygienic surfaces – without any creative added value. After
the decline of the XXL euphoria in the fine-stoneware sector, “small-segmented” ceramic
tiles experienced a true revival. That the glazed tiles are actually able to stage living
rooms is shown by gambardellarchitetti with the “House of luminous stalactites”. The
flat measuring just 52 square metres is located on the ground floor of a building from
th
the early 20 century in the prosperous Vomero district situated west of the old city. Vi-
etri tiles from the floor to the ceiling and on the floors characterize the entirely mono-
chrome rooms. Contrasting visual connections are thus produced between the dining
room (green), living room (ruby red), kitchen (orange), bathroom (yellow) and bedroom
(lavender). The professor of design Cherubino Gambardella, Simona Ottieri Gambardella
and her team colour-coordinated the built-in furniture – all custom-made – with the ce-
ramics. There is a common denominator in the plasterboard cardboard. This flat seems
like a surreal fairy tale, bold and personalized to the extreme!
