Ausklappbarer Schreibtisch für temporäre Nutzung • Foldout desk for temporary use Durchblick vom Schlafbereich in den Flur • View from the sleeping area into the hallway
of the work areas. Dimmable ceiling floodlights are mounted on top of the room dividers.
Since the two movable room dividers contain lighting, beamers and connections for lap-
tops and telephones, they are equipped with a media cable that acts like an umbilical
cord from the suspended ceiling to the room divider – the cable rail connecting the elec-
trical supply line to the movable transformer cabinet is hidden behind the slot in the sus-
pended ceiling. This is a kind of enclosed conductor line known from cranes. The furni-
ture therefore transports the diffuse light source on the ceiling and shines from within it-
self with directed focused light because of the integrated mini-spotlights and LED surfaces
or strips in the joints of the wooden furniture.
Light from the north, a hundred suns and light filters
The specific daylight atmosphere had a particularly strong influence on the design. The
large-scale north-facing glazing provides calm and clear illumination for the longest time
of the day. At certain times of the day, rays of sunlight enter the space via reflections from
the surrounding new buildings. This temporary theatrical situation of the “hundred suns”
is filtered and reproduced via the semi-transparent curtain fabrics. A second curtain layer
allows for complete darkening and absolute privacy – this was necessary due to the
dense neighbouring development. The medium grey colour of the curtains and the light
fabric are used as layered light and privacy filters between inside and outside. The co-
lours harmonise with the natural shades in the flat. The feel and surface structure of the
curtain fabrics are reminiscent of the simplicity of a monk’s habit. Grundriss • Floor plan
